I've had some personal things come up preventing my being there, and it looks like attendance would be about 3 people in total. Calling it off.

Dropped in to the local Honda shop in town. Had the service guys run the VIN, it's part of the recall. They ordered parts (10 days lead time) and told me to ride it in in the morning and it will be done by that afternoon. Easy enough. +1 for Apex Sports.

If you're the kind of owner that's fastidious about keeping your machine spotless, a low-pressure air system would be ideal to dry out the hard-to-reach spots and get any debris out.
Personally, I wouldn't sweat it. They are made to be ridden. Do the due diligence of course, and every couple years go through everything and clean away grime, grit and what-not when you change all your fluids and do every 2 year maintenance. When you've got the bike pulled apart is the perfect time to REALLY clean it up.

Holy crap!
That's impressive... Saved you a monster headache.
I can't believe it came out that nice at a lowside that speed... awesome!

... project ... in progress ...
(the dirty spots & splashes are dead insects from the week end ride)
I really like that.

Oh man... That's rough.
Keep us posted on the fix.
I guess you are aware of the issue some of the early bikes had with swarf in the engine left over from the manufacturing process? No idea if this is what's happened in your engine but is it possible swarf may have blocked an oil feed to the big end bearing?
What's that all about Stroman?

Oh no... That doesn't look good.
Very curious to see what comes of this when you pin down the cause. What a shame.

Someone posted that one was listed on craigslist. I'm sure there are a few on ebay too,
There are a few on e-bay... just checked.
Looks like they range from ratty (750cc cover beat to snot for 5 bucks) to nice.
None for the 12's though. :(

I'm sure it can be done on a 1200 as well. I need to get my hands on a spare cover to be sure.
Given that the engine internals are running at a negative pressure in the 7th gen, I wonder what effect, if any, that would have on the plexi... Looks like the clutch area is NOT pressure controlled by this diagram, but wonder if anyone knows for sure:
Just a thought.
Seb, if you put the 7th gen covers on a list of things to do... Yeah... I'll buy. Just want to make sure that the components are kept safe.

Old looks are still the best...

Sergeant Phil Esterhaus: "Hey, let's be careful out there." (Hill Street Blues)
I'm just gonna go ahead and one-up that....

Bookmarked!
^This. Good to know a 5 year old thread is still kicking!

So, I bit the bullet and did this fix yesterday.
About 1/2 way through, I'm looking at body parts all over the garage on a brand-new bike, screws, bolts and clips rattling in a cup and a birds nest of clipped wires... I'm thinking "Oh hell... I screwed up and will never get all this back together."
Well, I did, and holy hell am I glad I did this. It's like a whole new bike. Power delivery in 1st and 2nd is notably more linear, low end grunt is really REALLY evident, not to mention the sound is even better due to the exhaust valve opening up in the useable rev range.
THANK you for the information guys, seriously.
I am going to shut down vfrd soon

I'll echo the same sentiment most have.
Thanks for being the steward as long as you have. I've met some tremendous people through this forum, and have you to thank for it.
Onward!
