    Home unscathed

The tag says build date 5/89. The seller claims Honda New Zealand received a diverted shipment originally intended for Great Britain. Makes sense as speedo in both miles and kms. The red colour is very red compared to my 1200. Gets noticed. Non bike people cannot believe its a 25 year old model.
  2. Thanks Parksey, a great article, I have not done all the "almosts" of the author but he is spot on. The Lindis Pass for example .... "The blat out of Omarama took me through the imposing Lindis Range along the very twisty Interstate 8, cutting through the towering rockscape like a black snake, twisting back on itself, dropping down, climbing up, all in second and third gear." Whilst it is rare to see Hobbits, you will always find a good road!

The pits are little more relaxed here than the MotoGp.

This is a good turn around point for an easy 550 km or so day trip from Hamilton NZ. If you get the forecast right you do the whole trip in an unlined Leather Jacket and Kelvar Jeans without feeling hot or cold. There was a winery with its restaurant open on the road down to the beach. We made do with pies of course, after all it is a blokes bike trip.

The road here is sublime for motorcycling, constantly winds around the coast with great sea views and then regularly dropping onto small bridges that cross estuaries like this one. This is by a small beachside settlement off Clifton Road that gives good views of the Three Sisters Rock Formations. Of course I took a picture of the Bridge instead ... (Dooh). Google 'three sisters nz images' if you want to see the formations ... Government photographers much better than me.

This sums up tiny NZ towns, this is the end of the main street of Aria! There is the obvious stuff like the cows and the poster for the local Sheepdog trials. Also NZ is a new country so we cherish any history we can find, hence we build good fences around a chimney that would be less than 200 years old wheras in England they have so many 800 year old castles they use them to store hay. Maori place names are also interesting, Kumara is a sweet potato, good tasting too that can be easily grown anywhere, maybe this road produced the best ones? The road through Aria is a nice detour to avoid the less exciting parts of State Highway 3 between Piopio and Awakino. Hardly adds any time and is all sealed and generally the livestock is on the correct side of the fences ...

Return leg from Waitara to Hamilton. Up the Manganui Road, full of 70 kph curves with stunning coastal views just before the turnoff back Waitomo ... only one stretch of gravel.

Turn point of a 550 km day ride Hamilton to Hamilton. Coast road on the Taranaki always splendid and great when 25 degrees!
  15. In NZ it is rare to have go even that far between fuel stops, but I am with you, who wants all their stops to be at fuel stations and not other places. Here is my approach, get a small, light plastic siphon and travel with guys with the bikes that have uber large tanks ... Then you can easily risk doing 290 kms and laugh at the servo that you were nearly out of gas ... BMW adventure bikes with the big 33 litre tanks are best ... Buy them one free tank load at the start of the trip and they might stay with you for 4000 kms .... Awesome insurance ...
  16. ... And you guys motorcycle ... Amazing commitment ...
