  7. I've had this conversion done for almost 3 months now and i dd the bike 5 days a week and i can still scrape pegs and do every thing i normally did with the stock rim. @Beck - To me it would have to be for the looks of the new wheel. I've been riding since the mid-70's and much of that was on modded Yamaha RDs that were FANTASTIC handling bikes with the right tires. I always went wider with both front and rear wheels and tires and it worked out great (with other mods). One key for good handling to have a balance between the front and rear, and I think that going wider like this on the VFR rear is not balanced (of course there are MANY other factors to good handling). Anyone who modifies their bikes learns that there is often compromise involved, and it becomes a question of what you want to live with. If you know your bike and are comfortable with the compromises you've made... I have no problem with that unless it is unsafe... An unsafe mod can hurt or kill others, not just the rider. @emanonsc2 - I'm all for modding bikes and making it the way you want it (safely). You seem to be comfortable with your setup, but I must say that in my opinion scraping your pegs is not the measure of good handling. I've been able to grind pegs on almost every streetbike I've had, and some of those handled like crap. I have yet to lose grip with the stock wheel/tire size on my 6th gen, even in the most agressive riding (ok, yes pegs and knee pucks dragging lol). I'm pretty impressed with the setup of my VFR considering how heavy it is. What hurts my speeds the most is the lack of power and excessive weight, not grip. I can easily ride my VFR upto about 8 to 9/10ths of it's capabilities whereas the BMW S1000rr that I rode scared the crap out of me until I was comfortable with it. Even then I was probably using 5 or 6/10ths of it. If your mod is safe, enjoy it...
  8. That looked great, so I did the same thing on my bike and love it. Thanks!
  9. I've done the 'flashing the clutch' shifting before and it does work but it can smoke your clutch and fouls your oil. The difference is that when you flash the clutch at full throttle and high RPM you're punishing the clutch and pressure plates, probably over-revving, and the shifts aren't as consistant. Press the button and the fuel injection is cut for 250 milliseconds for quick, consistant shifts with no drama. Oh, and it sounds awesome, like a formula 1 car :)
  10. Gave the quickshifter a good test this weekend. For performance it's nice to have full throttle clutchless shifts that only take 250 milliseconds each :) The other benefit that I found is when carrying a passenger and accelerating moderately, the quickshifter allows me to not loose momentum which can occasionally cause the passenger helmet to hit the back of my helmet. It's so smooth shifting, my wife likes it :)
  11. I installed mine over the weekend. My reed screws also wouldn't back out. I used the cut-off wheel on my dremel to cut the threads off flush with the plate, then the shortened screw was easy to screw out. Nice mod.
  12. I called A&A and talked to Dan's dad and he told me they still had a few PAIR kits. I stopped in at A&A yesterday and picked up my set. I also got a tour of the place and a look at all the supercharger kit parts... wow I'm so impressed with what Dan has done - true innovation. To see what this young man still in his 20's can do is inspiring and it gives me hope that our youth in the USA aren't all the sterotype of their generation. I didn't meet Dan, but if he is anything like his dad he must be a great guy.
  13. I just put Michelin Pilot Road 3 tires on and they are great. Too bad they aren't a choice on the tire survey...
  14. I found a nice handlebar mounted toggle that would work for the PCV. I was going to get this for switching my maps, but I got the pushbutton for the quickshift feature instead. I'm mounting a toggle under the seat near the PCV since I don't think I'll need to switch maps on-the-fly. It's $38 at http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=AR-STT
  15. OK, I got my Power Commander V installed and everything set up. I installed the handlebar switch and it works great! If you have a PCV and want a cheap way to play with the Quick Shift feature this switch is a good way to go.
  16. By the time I noticed this thread it was too late to get in on the special run... any chance that there may be more made? I'm sure that at least 10 more sets would sell if you did another run since it seems like some peope who bought them would want a second set. Should we start a new thread to see who signs up for a set? You can count me in for at least one set... :)

    HF stand

From the album: Harbor Freight Lift

got this motorcycle lift at Harbor Freight for $299 and mounted a front wheel stand to it, works great.
  18. The pressure switch and the linear switch are the two other ways of using the Quick Shift feature. The problem for me is that they cost $200-$300 and I'm not that serious about it... I just want to play with it, so under 35 bucks works good for me. Here is how the handlebar switch works, according to Dynojet - "To use this type of switch, the rider must first slightly pre load the shift lever, press the handlebar mounted switch, and then complete the shifter movement." This doesn't defeat the purpose, which is to make very quick full throttle shifts without using the clutch. My PCV has two inputs labeled "Shifter". Here is what the installation manual says about them - "Shifter - These inputs are for use with the Dynojet quickshifter. Insert the wires from the Dynojet quickshifter into the SHIFTER inputs. The polarity of the wires is not important" I am pretty sure that this will work because I emailed Dynojet about doing this. They state that you can use ANY single throw, single pole switch. The quick shifter is momentary, the Fuel Injection map switch is a toggle. Here is the relevant part of their reply... "The PC5 for the VFR800 uses part number: 16-005. To switch maps or trigger a kill, you can use any single throw, single pole switch wired to the 2 switch inputs on top of the PC5 module ( 1 for map toggle, 1 for shift kill trigger)."
  19. Has anyone used the Quick Shifter? I'm in the process of installing my new PCV and I became interested in the Quick Shifter ability of the unit. DynoJet sells their handlebar mounted button for aprox. $140, so it's not exactly cheap. Here is a pic of the DynoJet switch. I don't like how the wire just sticks straight out the back... Reading through the instructions I found that ANY momentary switch can be used, so I went searching the web. What I found was this - http://www.sierra-mc...?prod=AR-HM-PTT Price including shipping was only $32.68 so I figured why not try it. It mounts easily, although I did drill a new locating hole in my handlbar for the stock switch assy to make a little room for this. The wire bends easily where it exits the switch and I routed it with the other switch wiring. I just cut off the connector that came with it and connected the wires to the PCV So, I'm not done hooking it all up yet, but it should work. Pics when I'm done... Thoughts??? Comments???
  20. This Poll needs to be reset and the Pilot Road 3 and other new tires added to the list. I've heard great things about the PR3, so that's what I'm probably ordering. Any suggestions as to where the best deal is?
