  1. Here's my 2¢, installing the bars on my Hawk, also switching to 1000RR forks, top triple isn't flat and paper thin, luckily there is a guy who likes to make things... like all new triple! or another option is the triple on top of triple... on stock Hawk forks stick out above the clamp, plenty of room to attach this and not have to drill anything black anodized and installed
  2. Africa Twin motor is 750 Biggest one you can bolt in) but they are hard to get here in US since they never sold here. I would refer the whole bike anyway, big fan of Honda, want to have almost every one in my garage :) That one is +3mm bore (697cc+/-) with over-sized valves and Megacycle cams, IIRC 76 hp with stock carbs back in '99 when the motor was done. Since then it was raced and overheated once so it seemed few ponies down last I raced it in 2000. Sat in storage for 10 years (got married) but when I took it out last fall it was as fast as I remember it, effortless power-wheelies. Amazing thing is that it still has same gas I put in it October 2000, fired right up with fresh battery, did not even have to clean carbs. I hope to get it finished this winter but I have to get NSR back together first, also swap the motor on 1KR. Have few other projects too, never enough time
  3. oh it's clean now, bike was taken apart and washed on the industrial parts washer now it's easier to hide from my wife
  4. I don't think the caliper clearance is an issue, only reason to space the wheel out is to keep it aligned with bikes center line. Here's something to consider, NONE here mentioned or tried the HawkGT mounting method because NONE have probably ever removed the wheel from the Hawk. Well, here's food for thought, Hawk wheel is held in place by a bolt that passes through a center of the axle, than a nut holds the wheel in place via spacer. How difficult would it be to drill and spline the hole through the center of VFR axle and use a large bolt/spacer and nut to mount it HawkGT style? as promised my Hawk/Ducati project pictures, got sidetracked with all the other bikes so I left it alone for now in the back is a 748 lower triple modded with CBR900RR stem to fit the Hawk left front is the sleeve insert, on the right is Duc eccentric with 5mm ring pressed on it for an offset on the bike I'm using Duc cush, the upside is that there are many lightweight aftermarket parts available for Ducati set up, downside is that Duc's have always used very small sprockets, 38 rear is stock, had heluva time locating a 43t rear, also have to use aftermarket cush for that, Ducati cush-drive consists of rubber insulators inserted on to a sprocket, dealer does not carry sprockets bigger than 39t (IIRC?) so I'm using the Fast By Ferracci carrier, got a sprocket from them as well, must have been for a stunt bike.
  5. There are hundreds of bad sellers and you can't flag them all so in my 10+ years of eBaying I learned few rules, these are just few that I can think of Selling stuff: -make sure you have a tracking number, some scammers seeing that item was delivered USPS and not traceable will start a dispute, without tracking YOU WILL LOOSE! -should I even mention the "Nigerian scam"? Buying stuff: -research the sellers feedback -make sure the shipping fee is reasonable, you will loose it if item has to be sent back so paying a $45 shipping on a $40 item is a sure way to get burned and a sign of less than honest seller -ask for tracking -file a dispute before 45 days -if you must resort to negative feedback do not revise it till you satisfied
  6. I have this set up on all my bikes: first of all they all have "Battery Tender" leads wired to the battery. then I made something similar to the picture below, but as I found out few retailers sell this including Twisted Throttle. I just plug in phone or GPS charger in it, no need for the ignition to be on, I left the wires extra long so when I'm camping the socket reaches in my tent and I can charge the phone overnight when it rains. My latest phone HTC G2 can actually sustain the GPS navigation for many hours while streaming Pandora at the same time, only issue is the phone gets really hot in the tank bag and heat kills battery, it stays fully charged while plugged in but then it discharged quickly to the point that I had to replace couple till I figured out what the problem was. Same arrangement, sealed in the clear window of the tank bag, killed my Garmin right at the end of 5 hour trip, it smelled like it was on fire Also I use the the lighter adapter with 2 usb ports so I can charge phone and Scala at the same time, when I got new phone instead of spending $29.95 on new car adapter I just use new mini USB cable that came with a phone
  7. 1000 horse per liter was achieved in the late 80's and was the main cause of the end of "turbo era" in F1, cars were too powerful and turbo chargers were banned. Both Honda and BMW had their 1.5L 4 cylinder engines at about 1500 hp but the Dyno's weren't built to measure that kind of power so it was only estimated at 1500, can't even imagine what 20+ years of development could have yielded, couple hundred psi of boost? 2000 hp/l? From what I understand BMW was using a street car engine blocks that were "aged" out back, left to rust outside the factory before they were used. Seen it on Discovery HD, they failed to come up with explanation other than rusting might have relieved the stress?
  8. Looking at the pics it seems like Duc brake carrier attached to swingarm in the same place as VFR800, there is a bolt the does through the slot on the carrier that allows it to slide back and forward as eccentric is rotated. I can post a Duc SSA pics tomorrow, all my parts are at the shop.
  9. I'm not gonna say that ABS will work, in fact because of different caliper size I'd say it's not likely to work on ABS bikes, but here's a Duc eccentric in Hawk swingarm, complete with carrier for a Brembo caliper. As for VFR wheel mod there is more than one way of doing it, you can use Hawk spindle and modify it or just install VFR axle. Also hawk spindle could be modified to accept Ducati wheel, not likely to be done with VFR but I suppose you can pic up Hawk (or NC30) spindle and use it on earlier model VFR's here's a Hawk Spindle mod for Duc wheel
  10. I'm using 748/916/996 eccentric with custom made sleeve, once I have it in my hands will post up some pics, but basically it's a simple sleeve that allows smaller Duc eccentric to fit in larger opening of Honda swinger, it also provides proper offset.
  11. Couple things to consider: A fella on Hawk GTForum has a set of Corazzerais mounted on his Hawk using modified stock spindle , I know that Hawk spindle is direct swap for VFR since most Hawkers use Vifer wheels and spindles on their bikes. Also he paid closer to $1000 than $2K, can't remember exact figure but I can ask Also same fella making me a spacer to fit a Ducati complete eccentric, brakes and wheel on to Hawk swingarm, it's a simple sleeve with small offset, he provided drawings but I opted to have him make it for a reasonable fee. Should work on VFR since the swingarms have same offset and eccentrics have same diameter. I'd post some links but the Hawk Forum is down for maintenance
