  1. Yes, figured it was something like that but wanted to check.
  2. Could you post a picture of what you are trying to cover please? I've never heard of a harness or rear cargo box for the 1200.
  3. What service history do you have? Valve services every 16k miles? As TimC says, bearings? Any consumables depending on when it was last serviced.
  4. Nice one, but if you want to make a serious improvement to braking on the 5th Gen then I highly recommend fitting a set of braided brake hoses. My 01 is significantly better than before.
  5. Hi Andy, welcome. Looks like we're neighbours
  6. Looking forward to the end result, wish I had a fraction of your skills.
  7. Does your model have a PAIR system fitted? If so, I'd suggest removing it.
  8. It is quite a heavy bike, heavier than your previous bikes so well worth the test ride I'm sure you will try to take.
  9. A point of order: the Dual Clutch Technology (DCT) is not an 'auto' gearbox. The gearbox is a manual gearbox, it just has 2 clutches which make for seamless gear changes, whether you let the bike make the changes or you change yourself with the handlebar controls or there is an optional, traditional style foot change available and you can flick between both methods any time. Just sayin'
  10. Don't listen to them! I returned a few weeks ago from 2800 miles across France and into Northern Spain on my 1200. Flawless (except when I lost the rear brake on a very long downhill twisty section). 100mph = 50mpg (UK gallons). Honest! Budget on upgrading suspension and comfort seat. Panniers are not very big. Brakes are awesome. Ensure shaft recall has been completed - punch mark above frame number. Lose the standard, heavy end can and find a smaller, louder one of your choice. ECU can be tuned remotely to remove 1st/2nd & 6th gear limitations and smooth out low rpms. Beware front brake disc warping. Can't think of anything else right now. Please let us know how you get on.
  11. Very sad news. Thoughts go to his family, colleagues and friends.
  12. That's bollox, I use mine all the time through the worst English winter weather. Mind you, on the X, it's on a more vertical face than the F.
  13. The 2018+ X definitely has a power supply on the top of the lhs fairing. It's a cigarette lighter socket, not a usb. No idea about the f-model.
  14. Then I highly recommend GPR. beautiful sound, excellent quality and looks really good.
  15. GPR Germany site for the VFR800. Contact them for link pipe purchase.
  16. What he said. My FiL recently 'beat' cancer, it is doable and all our best wishes are with you m8. I have benefitted from your wise counsel on numerous occasions so I wish I could pop a cork with you and raise a glass. Maybe one day. So good to see you out on the bike again.
  17. My GPR Hi-level end can came with a link pipe. They're an Italian make so easily available in Europe. https://www.gpr.it/en/exhausts/
  18. Thanks. Already ordered but will check for match first.
  19. Thanks m8 but it looks like they ceased trading. Managed to find this https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_dkr=1&iconV2Request=true&_blrs=recall_filtering&_ssn=firanto.colours&store_cat=0&store_name=firantocolours&_oac=1&_nkw=honda nh-146m with correct paint code.
  20. Anyone in the UK know where I can get some touch-up paint for my 01 VFR800? Paint code below.
  21. Sorted! In order to remove the tank, you need to relieve the pressure following the guide below, then you can disconnect the fuel line. I couldn't access the back of the tank enough to get my hands in place to disconnect the fuel pump connector (3P), it was one of those awful Honda connectors that you have to press in several places to get it to come apart - no chance with the access I had. So I had a cup of tea to ponder things then decided I'd give it a try with the tank in place. Holding the front up as high as I could with a piece of wood, I (very) carefully removed all the screws holding the airbox lid on. Not an easy task but taking it slowly I was able to undo them all and carefully remove them without dropping them (did that on my '98 many years ago) using a magnetic tool I have for that purpose. I was just able to move the top aside enough to remove the old air filter, squeeze in the new one and get the lid back on, but it was tight. I then VERY gingerly and slowly lowered the screws back into place and tightened them up. Thanks Honda! NOT!
  22. It's very tight at the back, hardly lifts at all so no, I don't think so. Just about to head into garage. As you say, manual doesn't say empty the tank so.......
