I live in the Pacific NW near Portland Oregon and am looking for some suggestions regarding a good father son ride. My son is enlisting in the Army next summer and I wanted to take a week or longer road trip with him next spring or early summer so we could spend some quality time together before he left for basic training. I was initially looking at riding route 66 from Chicago back west. I began having second thoughts when i discovered it would cost over $1000 to ship the bikes back to Chicago as I initially planned. My son has a 2007 Buell XB9SX Lightning which limits him to approximately 120 miles on a tank of gas, so frequent fuel stops are somewhat of a priority during the trip. I am also looking for trip suggestions for later this summer and fall that may be a little shorter, 2-3 days round trip. I am very proud of my son for his decision, and it was totally his decision, to enlist in the military and serve his country. Because of this I want to spend some good quality time doing something we both love to do, riding motorcycles! Any trip suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
