5th Gen rear axle & swingarm bearing inspection at 60,000 miles
FromMaine replied to Fritzer's topic in Maintenance Guides
Very good write up and documentation. Last Spring at 82,700 miles I took the rear swingarm/shock off to clean and check every thing on my 97. Miked all the bushings and bearings and bolts, they were fine so lubed and remounted. The only thing I could not remove was the rear main bearing its self. Prior to starting I had checked the wheel for play by hand and did not detect anything. Spinning the wheel with the chain off, it spun freely. A dial indicator showed .002 runout. A look at my Honda service manual, Clymers and online did not show a service interval for that bearing. So I greased everything and put it back together. I'm with you though, I would feel better if I could have miked and eyeballed the bearing itself. So when funds allow I'll be getting some type of hydraulic press. -

From the album: Assorted V4's
I don't usually do this kind of thing, but........I did. In 1976 I was at mile 1 in Key West Florida on my new CB400F. In 1978 I was in Blaine WA on my new 78 CX500 on my way to Prince George in BC. In 2008 I was in Imperial Beach CA on my CB650C. It wasn't until I ran into two guys from NJ on brand new GS1200's headed to Madawaska that I had even heard of the 4 corners thing. Thinking about it one day I headed up and spent the night. The fellow who owns it as a 501 and I chatted, when he heard my story he grabbed my camera and insisted on this pic. Is it an official 4 corners ride? Heck no, whoever certifies this says 30 days to do it with proof. I took over 30 years, but I'm OK without the patch or certificate. -

Four Corners motorcycle park in Madawaska Maine, one of the four corners of the lower 48. -

Truro England shortly after I bought the bike. I love that there is free dedicated parking in most of the UK for bikes -

A small road in Wales, quiet and serene because there are some cracking roads just nearby for bikes. Nice to take a break every now and again. -

Newport Wales transporter bridge. Sailing vessels used this Estuary at high water to get to the factories up stream, but it dried out a low water. So using a ferry to get across is impractical. The solution was to suspend what is pretty much an air ferry from cables from a high structure, no need for water to cross and the masts of cargo vessels could pass under. Turn of the century technology at its best! -
Great write up, a very entertaining read. In 2008 I was working in San Diego and bought a bike to get around (83CB650) Every weekend I would take off for some where, so it was interesting to read about some of these places from another point of view. Thanks.

VFR 750 F (M) 1991 Italian Red and Italian Ducati 906 Paso 1990
FromMaine commented on Ronsk's gallery image in Member's Gallery
I would be hard pressed to find two nicer looking bikes in the same Photo, maybe a 1997 Ducati 750 SuperSport and my 4th Gen with white wheels would come close. Both in red of course. My 91 3rd Gen in England had a black saddle as the few I have seen in the US, so I wonder what market that was built for? Or was there an option for seat color? .Either way, great all round bikes. Kudo's on the VF1000R, a zero speed threat to ones health and safety, but a surprisingly capable sport tourer, 7,800 miles from Maine to Calf and back in 2012 and I would do it again in a heartbeat. -
I met up with Kel a few years back in Portland Maine. His bike is even more stunning in person than the pictures show. The attention to detail and the artistry really doesn't reveal until you see it in person. I was on my Vf1000R, which instantly looked like the worlds worst beater, parked up next to his.

VFR750 F RC36 1990 What fairings you manage to put on to replace old ones?
FromMaine replied to RS7's topic in Modifications
https://shop.auctmarts.com/fairings/1x12.html Have a look at this site, they make fairing kits for lots of bikes, I just posted one of the VFR800 kits for illustration. Years ago they did offer fairings for the 90-93 VFR's but they don't list them now. May still be worth while contacting them. I have no experience with them so cannot say how good they are. -
