Didn't wanna get caught in the rain, so did most riding in the early morning.

    Oh Deer,

Hit a deer, riding south, about 5 min before the Balfour Ferry,

I never did see the Hoser Lady. I took the 10:40 Ferry, so went down to Creston around 11:15 - 12:00

I was moving swiftly, by myself, but not in Hooligan Mode.

That sucks, sorry to hear.  Did you have any trouble keeping it upright?

  2. Off work in a little under an hour, headed home to pick up the bags then on to Nanaimo and ferry to North Van.  Hopefully I'll be catching the 5:20 ferry so arriving at Mike's in Squamish around 8:30 or so.  We're taking the Duffy lake road tomorrow morning :cheerleader:, Lilloet, Kamloops, then turning right at Monte creek down to Vernon and Fauquier.  Looking forward to seeing folks, almost time to play the "match the face to the name to the username" game.  I hope to do better this year.

    See you soon.

  3. So far we have 25 confirmed attendees! The weather has been pretty good here and I've already been out and riding to work and a few short jaunts (still snow in the mountains and cold).

I still haven't gotten my lazy ass in gear to do the t-shirts, but never fear they will rear their heads before the meet. If the weather remains this mild I may do a reconnaissance run to Nelson in late April or early May.

Still no sign of my new bike from Honda but I hear rumblings the Africa Twins are starting to arrive in the USA so we can be far off. My prediction is still May.

It's raining today in Kaslo but it's been nice the last few days. Yesterday we put up the tennis nets and got out for a hit. That was good since I missed the last month of hockey due to a sprained knee. Pruned 4 apple tree- more to do still.

I haven't insured the bike yet but there are a few riders out there. I saw a Ducati Multistrada rider in town the other day but it's hard to look cool riding through downtown with your blinker on. And then I heard a pack of 3 sport bike riders take off on the highway just below my house.

BTW there's a local controversy about loud motorcycles with a petition circulating to have the RCMP enforce existing noise laws. Which won't be a problem with the Hootenanny because we're all riding on quiet, stock mufflers, right?

Still can't believe how few gendarmes we saw on the last hootenanny, (with one exception) how has it been for them in the last couple of years?

  4. We all had another fine ride to Bend central Oregon roads and scenery unparalleled almost no traffic weather outstanding everybody stoked. I was leading over Dooley Mtn and Radar and bride close behind carving corners and bobcat crosses in front and flys up sheer rock cliff !

Had me worried trying to figure out which member went by "bobcat"

  5. haha yeah, I've done that before with car tyres on steelies a few times.

Consider it a last resort to try at home since there's no way a legitimate business will try that for me in their workshop.

Another problem being if that fails too I can no longer sell the tyre as brand new (or at least I wouldn't feel right about it).

Near new tire for sale. 1 heat cycle.

  6. On the rocker switches, I've had some success water proofing them by removing the rocker part and filling the cavity with dielectric grease, then reinstalling the rocker. You just have to be carefully not to lose any parts, and part it back together properly.

Thanks for that. I tested the grips on high this morning and they are back to normal lava temperature so my switch fiddling worked at least temporarily. I will take your advice and disassemble the switch to add some grease. Is your switch the round black one like this picture shows as opposed to the big metal locomotive headlight switch?

  7. I use symtech and the switch is crap, but I ride in the rain alot and the switch is not tucked under the screen like some have done. Replacing the switch evey couple if years is no big problem for me.

I went through this issue last night.

I've been noticing that my grips were not as hot on high as they were on low so I attacked with a multimeter last night and believe I found the problem.

I checked the resistance of the switch through both the high and low terminals to center, and found that the resistance was .5 ohm through the low terminal and 1.8-2.5 ohms through the high terminal. Obviously the switch was moved to the appropriate position for the test. I then sprayed some WD40 in the switch by dripping it adjacent to the rocker itself, then flipped it back and forth about 50 times to scrub the contacts inside. The resistance afterwards was .5 ohm on both high and low settings. I then tested the amperage draw through both high and low by reconnecting both the high and low side terminals but placing the multimeter between the hot wire and the center terminal. I noted about 1.5 amps on low and 2.8 amps on high (from memory) so I think I've found the problem.

I guess these switches need to be protected from the weather.

I have not tested the grips on high in a real world test yet.

I don't know whether the WD40 is partially responsible for correcting the resistance readings or if it was just cycling the switch. I don't want to take the switch apart to actually find out whether there is any weather protection built in as they are often impossible to re-assemble.

The lesson here is either get a weatherproof switch or place it somewhere out of the weather.

  8. Does this unit have a price your asking and how about instuctions of how to modify the setup??

I can understand the reasoning behind this but it seems that if you don't have any problem as designed, there should be no need for it. If you do have trouble, there's likely something wrong and then wouldn't this essentially be a band aid?

If I understand correctly, there is only a fan on one rad so the other would allow unimpeded airflow at any speed above minimal and with the way the regulator works, it seems it would keep the heat level down on the R/R simply by wasting some of the excess electricity that otherwise must get expelled as heat in the R/R.
