  1. Well, I hope the info presented here helps someone because I no longer need it. I was out in the garage digging around and I found one small flat heavy box that hasn't been unpacked from the move. It's the very last unopened box in the garage. Upon popping it open I found the CBR600F2 cush drive and all the little bits, pieces, bearing spacers, etc that I thought I'd lost in the move or had gone adrfit somewhere. So all is well with the world again. Tell the truth,I was surprised I had lost it. I'm usually such a packrat with that stuff.... I rough measured the difference between the vf500 hub and the F2 hub and it looks to be 4-5 MM. I say rough because I just used the depth vernier and measured off hte sproket face. It could be a little larger or smaller if hte two sprockets are different thicknesses. I can't remember if I swapped to a 520 chain, a 540 chain or whatever way back when.....
  2. I would stick with the 500 hub, but the cbr600rr swingarm has a large support for the unit prolink shock right in the way and spacing the chain out is immeninently preferable to clearancing the swingarm. The chain needs to be spaced to the left and hopefully a CBR hub will give enough offset. It's fairly close to clearing with the 500 hub, so the CBR hub should do the business. I'll also have to make up and offset countershaft sprocket to keep the chani alignment at least close to true. Ah well, just the joys of sticking parts together that were never intended to mate........
  3. Thanks for the info Seb. A little "googling" turned up similar info. Only thing I see is the F4i/RR hubs have 6 drive "tabs" and the F2/3/4 have 5 tabs. F4i/RR: F4: F3: F2: Now, those pics are from an ebay search, so use at your own risk. Online Fische sites show different part numbers but that could simply be bearing differences or something else inconsequential. I was thinking of sliding the VF500 piece up on the shelf and saving it. I'm a bit of a packrat for unusual or unique pieces. Which is probably why the CBR drive went missing. Pretty common.....
  4. Originally, this thread was started as a question. Having found the required info, I'm turning it into an information thread. Below are the pictures of some of the hubs and I'll be measuring the ones I have available to me so the mounting height data will be here also. Please feel free to measure what you have and post up the results. Hi all. My 85 VF750F has been running F2 front and rear wheels for around 7-8 years. Works great. But I'm now in the process of rebirth for the bike and am swapping on a 2006 CBR600RR swingarm. Turns out, I need the offset of the factory cush drive to help clear the chain and the VF500 cush drive I've got on there now isn't going to cut it. I had the CBR center section when I bought the rim but it's gone adrift somewhere along the way and I can't find it. Does anyone know which drive section/cush drive will fit the F2 rear wheel? Obviously, a 91-94 F2 piece will work, but they're harder to come across these days. F3/F4 pieces seem to be everywhere and dirt cheap. I don't so much care about the bearings, they'll all be replaced with the the proper sizes and new anyways. Little help?
  5. LOL, we just applied for a mortgage yesterday! Another 400,000 to go on top of the gurrent 200,000 house................sheesh...............
  6. Hi seb, Can't remember which thread it was so I'll post it here: I got home yesterday and went rooting through my parts bins. Those front calipers? Well, they're gone. Wife cleaned the garage and they got thrown out "somehow". sorry bro, I won't be able to help you out there. Cheers
  7. If Seb doesn't want it, I'm in! Hey seb, what was this control off of again? I must have missed it. CBR1000R? I'm wondering because it actually has a choke lever that looks like it would work with the VF!
  8. Dambit seb! I was just waiting to wire up my SP2 ign switch! It's like you're reading my mind with this build.......but you're getting there first! Next thing you know, you'll be swapping on SP2 front and rear brakes, a hindle 4 into 1 pipe, aluminum can, CBR600RR shock and swingarm like my plan! At least I powder coated my frame silver and not black, so it won't look like I'm totally copying you or something. I'm also sourcing a complete extra set of bodywork and painting it GM atomic orange. Somehting like this: (not mine, edited a pic I found on the web) Please tell me you not planning to paint it atomic orange....I don't think I could take that.... This is, of course, all in good fun my friend! What are you using for a throttle? I'm looking at using the SP2 unit as it's a push pull like the VF's. It looks like the VF cables will thread into the housing, but I have to get one in my greedy little hands to know for sure...
  9. Ignition is long gone....just have the tank. Off to the locksmith for me!
  10. Take it to a lock smith, he can get it open and get a key for you too... Pretty much what I figured... Just thought there might be a way to have a key cut otherwise. Oh well......
  11. So, I've got a tank from an 86 vfr750f2 that I'm going to be using on a custom build (on my 85). It's in good shape from the outside. You could pretty much call it "mint". But here's the problem; There a fuel cap on it and I don't have the key. Any idea on how I can get a key for it, or at least get the cap off without destroying the cap or the tank?
  12. Well, that's a bit hard to understand unless you know what being in the military means. The bike is in Nova Scotia right now, but I'm in British Columbia. The bike and the "Fam" will be joining me out here in the fall... Like you, I'm not a huge fan of the open "triangle" either. Always seemed kind of unfinished. Some say it was for cooling reasons, but I think it was a styling choice to show off the rear cylinders of the "New For 83" V4 engine. I found the vf1000f side covers to actually be too long and I had to cut them down. The rear profile doesn't seem to line up perfectly with the 750 duck tail so a little rework is in order for mine. After that it will be fabbing up some "push tabs" for the 750 side cover rubber mounts. I've also got an 86 vfr750 tank I'm thinking about using (ala Tom's mutant 1000r) but then the vf1000f side covers won't match up.... Hmmm, what to do? What to do.....
  13. Hey, just ran across this thread and I've only got one thing to say...... YOU S.O.B! Have you been peeking in my shop?!? Now I have to tear it all apart again and take the build to the next level! I even have been fitting vf1000f side covers before final paint. Now I run across your thread where you're doing it too! :fing02: I'm just joking with your of course. You've done some really nice work there. I particularly like the carb rework. Black diaphragm covers are especially nice. I've been working on my 750 for the better part of 10 years now. I spend most of my time on the Yahoo "interceptors" list. Seems I need to Google a bit more when there's good stuff like this "out and about". Here's a little "rundown" on my old girl if you're interested; -1985 vf750f (Canadian model) -29,000 kms. I found it low mileage many moons back. Bought it because I had a new one in high school (first year, 1983) and have been tinkering with it ever since. -CBR600F2 front and rear wheels. I stripped them down and painted/polished them to look like the original VF750F wheels. Machined my own spacers, speedo gear and rear drive hub. -Rear CBRF2 brakes -front F2 brake rotors -Stainless steel lines, front and rear -tossed in a lower temp fan switch (from a Honda Accord IIRC) -homemade fender eliminator. I kept the rear frame rails and stock indicators for the original look. I also use the rails to assist me when "pedaling" the bike backwards (one arm behind and pulling up on the tail makes it easier) -powder coated frame in original silver (done a full frame off also, just the plastic is waiting for paint) -VF1000f front forks (I welded up the air balance holes also). 41mm tubes vice the stock vf750f 38mm. -CBR600F2 rear shock (resprung, revalved). Machined my own adapters for the lower mount. -Rebuilt stock exhaust with NOS cans from Honda. That was pretty expensive but worth it for the stock appearance... - center stand is gone. It doesn't reach the ground any more anyways because of the change in suspension heights.... Plans in the shop; - Hindle 4 into 1 that's currently undergoing R&R, or I may use it as a template. It's pretty beat up... - Aluminum can for the Hindle. Currently sitting on the shelf. -VF1000F side covers (you bastard!) - Body work repaint. I have a complete set of NOS Honda stripes and stickers that are going on her when ready. I've got a very good parts guy who hunted them all down for me . I'm toying with the idea of painting the plastics Corvette "atomic orange", bu tit will be done on separate plastics so I can pop the red/white/blue (classic interceptor) back on when I want. - plan on installing the gold emulators in the VF1000f forks as you did, but time and money is making that a little difficult right now... -VF1000R oil pump for the increased pressure/flow. It's reputed to be an 18% increase over the stock VF750F unit. I've always had a bit of "trepidation" about tapping the main gallery and pulling off pressure from the mains with the oil modification kits available. This seems a better option to me... -I have a 2005 CBR600RR shock on the way. Going to see if it can be made to work... Again, nice work and can't wait to see it "roll out" of the shop. Nice to see I'm not the only one who truly appreciates the virtues and styling of the original "Vunderbike"....
