  1. Love the silver wheels, tell us more about your 4th GEN gem.
  2. I got the plates for my 4th GEN from TPO parts, yes they are/were for a Busa but the kit they sell for the 4th gens comes with all the stuff to plug all the 4th gen plumbing. And yes it runs better and cooler and easier to tune. (BOMLE)
  3. Thanks for the report... may I quote you in an another forum where they believe 0W30 is "horrible" for our engines??? Hahahaha! Sure, not that my experience means much. Like I said, the bike seems much happier with the "lighter" stuff in it. In the winter I just commute or go meet for lunch, no long runs so the 0W30 is a good match for what the bike is being used for. I think I'll do the Blackstone thing in the spring to see what is actually going on.
  4. Well, I put Larry's 0W30 M1 in my '97 last night and rode to work today. Air temp on way to work 25F, on way home 37F. I had M1 10W40 motorcycle oil in it. Starter had and easier time spinning it to start and cold idle was higher. Less internal engine noise until it warmed up, then the same as normal. Shifting seems a bit notchier than with the 10W40. It seems overall to like the 0w30 in these colder temps, may work out great as a winter commuting oil. Because of our temp extremes here in New Mexico I feel I have to change twice a year 'cause I ride year round. This stuff and the M1 10w40 bike oil may be my 4th gen's diet for the future.
  5. Wow, thank you Sir. Come home late from work, sit down at the computer with a beer, see if there have been any updates on the oil the thread and there's the answer to my question! I've seen some motorcycle oils with 3 x's the amount of moly these have so the 0W30 is going in this weekend.
  6. So, Mr. BLS, what IS the moly content of M1 0W30? It's been very cold here (single digits to low teens in the morning) and I'm thinking of trying this.
  7. "Yes, I opened Pandora's box when I started twiddling... " True, but think of how much you (and we) have learned. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Very cool. I like how the black bags continue the black on the bottom. Bet it looks great in a profile view.

Slick set-up. Looks very well thought out.
  10. Thank you Stew for the info. My air box and filter is stock and I'm running the big bore baffle in my Staintune. You are right on the factory jetting being rich for my altitude- with my current exhaust the plugs look great and no popping on decel. Great thread. rm
  11. "I'll try to adjust the airbox a bit to dial it in a bit closer but it's not bad now and it pulls hard so I don't want to overshoot and mess it up." I'm very interested in what you finally settle on for airbox mods and jetting. I've got a '97 w/ a Staintune and ride at 5000 ft. + in elevation.
  12. MAN that turned out nice!

I would love to know what it took to do this! :fing02:
  14. Nice shot. Anybody have info on the 4th GEN sliders? And if they are worth installing? Thanks.
  15. X 32 on the pics of your 6th GEN hard bag adaptation. As far as I'm concerned it's the only thing wrong with my '97-no clean hard bag install for it. Looks like you've got the solution. BEAUTIFUL job.

    If Darth Vader rode....
  17. Any way possible to get this made into a poster?
  18. I read Gooschef's post about swapping the bars and did it with an added twist. I got a pair of 5th GEN bars for my 4th GEN because the 5th GENs are about 3/4 of an inch higher. I hadn't put them on yet when Goosechef posted about his swap and I thought "No way, this is too easy." But sure enough, swapping the 5th bars (L2R and vice versa) on my 4th brings them up AND back with NO clearance problems with the tank. I'm only 5'6" with short little T-Rex arms so it made a big difference for me. I looked for over a year for some 4th GEN HELIBARS (would still like to try a set) but for now this is a great fix. :fing02:
  19. Best line in the movie: "There is no smoking in the Skull Cave."
  20. Thank God you're OK. I'm checking my all riding pants to make sure they have hard shell joint protection. Sorry about your bike. My 4th GEN dreams of becoming a RCBVFR when it grows up.
