  3. Yes, you have to drill out the the holes. it isn't much, mostly just the existing threads, but you aren't going to reverse it without a tap&die and custom bolts of some kind. I have no intention of going back to factory, I only use the front portion of the Sargent seat so that the cowl creates a nice little storage space for rain layers / spare visor / etc.

  4. they are the Sargent quick release pins. not exactly a great deal price wise, but they look and work just fine.

  5. Rode off-road from Hwy 108 ( Near Pinecrest) to Highway 4 (Arnold) on Hell's Half Acre Road, it was 63 miles, but took around 3 hours with a few wrong turns on the spaghetti fire road system. Then we decided to ride over Ebbets Pass (8,736') on highway 4. Then we took a right on highway 89 and over Monitor Pass (8,314'). After gassing up in Walker, we took 395 south and then headed back over Sonora Pass (9,623') back to our campsite. Over 200 miles of twists and turns.

  7. I love this photo, slo1. The red VFR stands out and the curves leading to the mountains make you want to jump on and GO!

  10. Yes, they are powder coated a very HRC brownish gold.

  11. NICE! I love the gold wheels almost more than I love the white wheels that I sometimes see people put on these! Did you powder coat them?

  12. Thanks for getting a red Multistrada featured on VFRD! Beautiful shop.

  13. Pig? All VFRs are equal, but some VFRs are more equal than others!! Red NACA's are the best!!!

  14. What a nice example of a 4th Gen. I never get tired of looking at the lines on these bikes.

  15. I always wanted a turbo, but that is anFJ1200. I owned three of them. Lovely bikes! My first VFR ('99) replaced the last FJ I owned, a '93.

  16. Zero drag I actually have some wheels and brakes changes in the works for this bike. Not huge performance gains, but some bling for sure. Should finish the look of this bike nicely.

  19. Really evocative shot, Convoy. One small change that'd make it even better, imho, is if your bike was just a little further away from the structures to its right side.

  20. Love photos like this that show places I'd really like to ride. The swoop road reminds me of a spot on Montana's Hwy 78, looking south towards Red Bluff.

  21. That's the Hite Crossing Bridge in the background on UT-95 (for those interested, Google Maps link below). This view is on the North side of the Colorado looking East. https://www.google.com/maps/@37.8894221,-110.409233,3a,75y,60.66h,86.98t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1sqBeEVc3O7lLuR8YPjesxHQ!2e0!7i3328!8i1664!9m2!1b1!2i45?hl=en When I came through there a cop was making a traffic stop at the turnout at the base of the outcrop on the right. Sort of ruined the moment for me. We are so blessed in North America to have these epic landscapes in CO, UT, AZ, MT, WY ID, Eastern OR and CA to ride through. Not only great roads, but spectacular other worldly landscapes that even the movies couldn't make up. Even though it's tempting to "pour on the coal" through these places, I try to take it easy at times to soak in the scenery - it's just too good to pass up. Time for another road trip! Come on vaccine . . . !

  22. Point of Rocks, Maryland. New upper and left side cowl. Repainted front fender, left meter cover, and rear cowl with Color Rite R157. Tank is still original but faded a bit on the top right hand side.

  26. I have not read the book but I could imagine why a view like that would evoke some feelings. I absolutely had to stop as soon as I reached above the fog because I did not expect it to look so interesting. A guy approached me on a bicycle and commented that he lives in the area and how rare the unique fog formation it was.

  27. I recognize that spot, it's one of my favourite parts of PCH. Starting southbound from Garberville or northbound form Fort Bragg makes for a great morning's ride.

  30. A 25,000 ton or thereabouts train going even 40mph must do to a deer / elk, etc what a car does to an insect . . . There's probably on occasion some gruesome cleanup back at the yard!

  33. That . . . is the best cover photo I've seen in a v*e*r*y long time. If by "better at it" you mean be better at photography, it can't be by very much because you are superb - that is an awesome shot.

  36. SW-MOTECH Bags-Connection QUICK-LOCK EVO City Non-Electric Tank Bag SW-MOTECH Bags-Connection Slipstream Tail Bag Both bags fit like they were made for the bike! I used bulk elastic shockcord to fasten the tail bag to the seat (available from REI in the US).

  38. As a small correction (in case anyone is reading this and wants to go here) Monitor is CA89. 108 is Sonora Pass. Make a loop of it!

  41. Ah, there is still plenty left. Foot still is off the ground. Pretty much just on some sticky street tires. BADVFR i know i replied to your pm... I found my notes from that day... BT003 RS... Set to 29r/30f cold. The rear was shot on the left side by the end of the day. Had to flip it for day two. Probably could/should have set it to 30 or 31 rear... and possibly 32f Cool mornings had me holding off on the increase in pressure.

  43. For anyone who is interested, the left side exhaust is from Sandy Bike Spares in the UK. See my posts about this subject if you're interested but in summary: 1. Avoid their pattern right exit exhaust - horrible bents/joins and virtually impossible to rectify. Go for Predator/Motad. 2. The left exit exhaust has two terrible joins where the front downpipes meet the rear but other than that is a pretty good bit of kit. It's relatively easy to rectify if you can weld stainless and mine is producing 106.6 fwhp (97.1 rwhp) with this exhaust. The welding is nice and neat throughout and the sound is awesome (spud in or out). Stew
