This is the same manual that is already available here on VFRD. I have been using this so much lately that I went ahead and made it a little more useful for myself. I assumed that some other members might like to have it as well. Combined both files into one. Optimized the file size so that it is only 60 MB. Ran OCR text recognition to enable text searches on the entire book. Rotated pages that had landscape page diagram for ease of viewing. Created bookmarks for each chapter & sub-chapters. I figured this was the least I could do to contribute since I am getting so much help from this forum.

As originally made available by HispanicSlammer, this manual first came out for the 2002 model (first 6th generation model year). Not much has changed with respect to servicing the 6th gen VTEC since it was introduced in 2002. By-and-large, this manual applies to all 6th generation VFRs for years 2002 to 2011. There are only minor differences in some later years, most notably starting in 2006, with changes to VTEC engagement RPM and the wiring harness. All the hard work for this scanned version was done by an unknown source. The actual manual part is not searchable since it is a compilation of page scans only. I was tired of scrolling around the huge document trying to find what I needed. So I spent a few hours generating bookmarks. This version has bookmarks for all the subsections for each major section in the manual. The first page for each major section lists all the subsections and these each now have a bookmark for quick and easy document navigation. If you enable bookmark searching in your PDF reader - and most PDF readers support this - you can then search for major terms and subsections and get search results in the bookmarks. Remember, this Factory Service Manual is far from perfect. Firstly, it presumes you have a reasonable level of mechanic/shop experience. Secondly, it contains many errors. Not just typos, but erroneous information. Some of it was fixed in errata releases in subsequent years but not all of it (trust me, I've checked). I strongly advise that you search for relevant topics, review them and post any questions you may have in this most excellent of forums, VFRD, prior to performing your own major servicing of your VFR. There are amazingly helpful members here and a lot of great How-To posts. Enjoy and be safe! P.S. new version v3 has fully searchable text thanks to Adobe Acrobat's amazing "recognize text" OCR feature which has the added bonus of deskewing the page images as well as generating fully searchable text!

Ever try tracing a wire on the black and white diagram and lose your place causing you to start over again? Or maybe colors make the miserable job of tracing an electrical fault more fun? If you hate colors or usefulness, this is not for you. Some files are very large and may require significant amounts of RAM/computing power to view. IDK how much power is not enough, all my rigs are pretty new. Zip file contains 3 images: VFR Wiring Layers hires.png - very high resolution, colorized version of the wiring diagram from the 5th gen service manual. The filename lies, there are no layers in this file. VFR Wiring Layers hires.xcf - very high resolution, colorized.... Same as above, except has the wiring in "layers" so that you can hide parts of colorized wiring overlay that you are not interested in. Can open with GIMP (google it, the software is free for Linux or Windows, but may be difficult for casual users), IDK if Paint.net can handle layers either. VFR Wiring Layers hires.psd - same as above, photoshop format. Download the newest version if you want a print-ready file. The printable file doesn't have the layer functionality of the other files, but is tweaked and sized for 11x17 reproduction. If you don't intend to have the file printed, the 1.5 version has all the same functionality of the 1.51 version.

Ahh, back to two of my favorite things, techno music and vicodi... umm I mean, wiring diagrams and "photoshop"! So, a friend asked me to fix up a 3rd Gen wiring diagram à la the 5th gen diagrams that I did previously. They work the same way as the last. If you don't have an image manipulation program that can handle layers, then you will be missing out on the biggest feature of these files. I'm going to pimp the excellent, free, open-source program GIMP again. If you don't have a capable program, grab yourself a copy to experience the full technicolour majesty of these diagrams. All the .zip files contain a high resolution 11x17 formatted .png that yields acceptable printed/laminated results if you bring it to your local Kinkos, UPS Store, Staples, etc. Laminated, color 11x17s usually run about $5, and give you something to write on with grease pencil or overhead transparency marker in the garage. The _GIMP and _PS files have a high resolution, layered, image that allow you to show and hide the color of the wires (simply toggle layer visibility). This allows you to focus on sections of the wiring diagram that you are troubleshooting. The file types are .xcf and .psd, respectivly. The NoLayers version simply has a high resolution .png file, suitable for use on low performance machines that lack the capability to run real image manipulation software. The .png files are not layered, obviously. I am providing this free of charge and if you pass it on to others, I require the same of you. The only thing I ask is that you credit me for the editing; these things are quite time consuming to generate. I urge caution when using this diagram. There may be errors in the original Honda file and, unlike the 5th Gen, I did not have a handy, disassembled 3rd gen to verify the accuracy of the wire colors specified in the original file. There may also be regional or production variability. Again, use at your own risk, performing improper maintenance, repair, or modification to your motorcycle can result in harm yourself, others, and/or property of the same. By using this file, you release me from any damages to yourself or others.

There are several really great and easy to use online microfiche websites. However, when it comes to finding a part and you're unsure of exactly which microfiche its on, it can be somewhat difficult to find. I wanted an offline microfiche and parts list document that was searchable to find what I needed or take with me when I'm working on the VFR. I couldn't find one anywhere so I thought I'd make one from the printable versions of the online ones. Well, this turned out to be much harder than I anticipated. After countless hours of downloading, saving pages, editing them for readability and compiling them into one document, the result was a nice straightforward searchable document. I thought I'd share my efforts in case others found it useful. This document is specifically for the 2006 Honda VFR800A Interceptor ABS (note that it's the ABS version - lots of extra brake plumbing!). It even includes the Evap Canister stuff for the California model, even though mine doesn't have this. The usual disclaimers apply. Before ordering anything and when in doubt, consult the latest online versions - there are superseded part numbers that come out from Honda all the time. Don't be shy, feel free to post questions at VFRD - there's a lot of helpful members here. Enjoy!

Some of these I pulled from the Power Commander site. For the files that are corrupt on that site I searched the net and found the missing files on some old plain .html personal blogs such as: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stu.tyrrell/PowerCommanderMaps.htm Note that some of the PCII files have modified ignition. Make sure and critically analyze any map before implementing it! I have nothing to do with these maps except that I searched for them and posted them here. - Knight

Thanks to MadScientist for the original document at https://www.vfrdiscussion.com/index.php?/files/file/230-5th-gen-super-high-resolution-wiring-diagrams I slightly modified MadScientist's file “VFR Wiring Layers hires full.png” to fit “tabloid” sized 12x18 paper I took the modified file “VFR_5thGen_Wiring_Color_MadScientiest_Modified.jpg” to a local print shop, print it on 100 lb. 12x18 paper and then had them laminate it for around $6. Though the black and white service manual wiring diagram is complete, it can be a challenge to follow the correct line. The colored wiring diagram in the Haynes Manual is good but not as detailed as the wiring diagram in the service manual. The laminated color wiring diagram is now wall art in my garage.

Having spent ages trying to find compatible fork springs for an older bike, I came accross this list on the YSS Thailand site & thought it would be a great cross reference for anyone looking for a fork spring, when they can't find what they need for the specific model ! I had planned to use VFR springs to improve my buddies FJ forks when I refurbed them, but turns out Yamaha use a thicker wall on their 41mm forks, so the VFR springs (35mm OD) won't fit ! I was able to use this file to cross reference the early FJ1200 spring (485mmx33.5mmx0.65Kg/mm) with an XJ900S from 94-03 years which is 490mmx33.5mmx0.8-1.6Kg/mm (progressive), so only 5mm longer but stiffer, just what I needed 🙂 Hope it helps others.

These are the generic instructions for installing standard RaceTech Gold Valves for rebound. Using the online valving tool, the recommended valve stack for a 5th gen VFR with 80kg rider who preferred a soft set up is RH16 (5 x 0.15 x 17mm shims). I also did the same for a VTR1000F as I use that bike's rebound adjusters (I added 15kg to selected rider weight to offset the lighter bike in the calculation) and this recommended the RH17 shim stack (6 x 0.15 x 17mm shims) and 2 turns out for the rebound adjuster. Other RaceTech literature that I have suggests that for each 13.6kg or rider weight one would shift to the left or right of the recommended shim stack, so if you weigh 93.6kg, the VFR recommendation would be RH17 also. Both options recommended 0.92-0.93 kg/mm springs with 15mm of preload. Fork oil height recommended was different for the VFR (120mm) and VTR (140mm) presumably due to the greater volume of the fork cap mechanism on the VTR which would reduce the available air-gap.

This is a recovery of an old PCII directory from long ago when I had one on my VFR. I believe there is software in it to edit both the PCII and PCIII maps. I no longer have either of those to test it out, but the programs open map files and such. The biggest pain was finding a USB->COM port adapter for the laptop, alternatively I remember being able to remove the PCII from the bike and hook it up to a desktop with a com port with a 9V battery to power the PCII. I didn't check, but I _think_ all the old PCII maps (excluding California) uploaded by Miguel are in this zip file. Just putting this out there because someone was looking for it.

This is a direct transcription of the pc2 files posted at dynojet I combined the AAP tables and MP file tables from the original(map)file and converted it into a single (dmj) file table. The european staintune map is considerably leaner than the US version over the entire range of rpm and throttle postion. I found it has good fuel economy and smooth power delivery for my 1998 vfr high mount staintune with silencer bud and K&N filter I used this map exclusivly when I had my old PC2. I get 40-42 mpg with this map riding 70-80 mph on the highways. I went back to this map after suffering 35mpg from the us version when I upgraded from the PC2 to a PC3 usb with no noticible difference in performance, I transcribed the old european pc2 map and made this file. The leaned out areas actually remove some flat spots from OEM fuel map hard coded in the ECM of the bike.
