  1. This in reply to Cogswell on pg 1, where he began with: I agree. I've been a bicyclist also since '72, have worked in bike shops since '76, and still very much a traditionalist about bicycles in general. I saw the birth of the "mountain bike" and watched as that style of bike took over the market. I liken the advance of the "adventure motorcycle" to the mountain bike market. I look back over the decades of motorcycles and bicycles and realize how 'trendy' and gimmick-driven the two markets are.

  2. Honda just needs to update and modernize.. Here's a pic from down by Lake Wallowa a month or so ago... Full disclosure: I bought a '17 BMW R1200RS this past summer, and have ridden it almost 4000 miles sines June 16. I have put 3500 miles on the Viffer too.. However, IMHO there is NO comaparison between the Viffer and the Beemer. Yea, it is a much more expensive bike, but it is thoroughly modern in every way... The BMW electronics site, the chassis, suspension, and brakes are far superior... the 1170cc boxer engine is just plain awesome. Ride by wire and e-cruise is a treat when traveling. It weighs 520#... And.. i can get 200 miles from a tank of fuel, which is enough.. So to me it is worth it cost wise.. Dunno if i will keep the '08Viffer or not. I still grin when i ride it... If Honda builds an equally modern version VFR I would be very tempted to buy in..

  3. Yep, plus much more. Ogden to Cedar City the back way, 1100 twisty miles in 3 days. Hwy 36, Fairview-Huntington, Hwy 72, Hwy 12, Cedar Breaks, etc....

  5. Hello all...this looks like a great forum. As an intro, I'm old and retired but I started riding at 16. My last ride was a Vstrom DL650A about 10 years ago. I recently got the itch to ride again so I started looking for something different. I found my 1990 VFR 750 which I plan to license collector status here is BC to save insurance costs. The bike is in great shape with 63000 KM which I understand is barely broken in. Currently it sits in my garage while I visit my 'kids' awaiting a Grandson so it may be a few weeks before I get started on the bike. I plan to change all the fluids, filters etc. then move on the a couple of things to improve my ride position...lower pegs and higher bars (I did mention I'm old). These I can't do until I get the collector status approved as the powers that be insist on 'stock' condition (that could prove a challenge as it has a Corbin seat so I may need to beg borrow a stock seat for a photo shot) I would appreciate knowing if there are any other Victoria area riders I could contact and I sure would like some suggestions on peg lowering and bar raising. I have had two rides so far and I love the bike so I look forward to ongoing discussions...Thanks PS: I will post a photo when I get home.

  6. Good point. Can't really answer that, good chance it will increase corrosion within the tank as well as the potential to absorb moisture because of its hygroscopic nature, who knows how this may effect components in the pump and fuel lines. Possibly the reason why he had to replace the injectors as two of them wouldn't pulse. Do some research on "Phase Separation" issues with Ethanol blended fuels!

  8. Sidi are quite narrow, compared to Gaerne. I doubt those boots will allow enough flex to work on the VFR, which is partly why I have street and ADV boots.

  9. Ah Ha......This appears to be a Revelation!...... Fuel Flow Inspection test is on the Return Line NOT the Main Line. Looks like your bike is not starting due to inadequate fuel rail pressure! Think you should have addressed the issue of No Return Line Fuel Flow way back, would have saved an awful lot of unnecessary checking and testing! Assuming you don't have a completely blocked return hose, you could have a stuck closed FPR, or more likely a faulty Pressure Relief Valve within the pump or some other fault with the pump itself. Have a good read of the Technical Features section pages 21-20 to 21-22.

  10. 19v at the Battery! You're very lucky it didn't destroy both battery and your ECM. Glad you have it sorted.

  11. Rather than buy another radiator I’d get that one recored, cost should be under £250 depending on what you need done Either way I’d call this company and see what they say https://www.aaronradiator.co.uk/motorcycle/ …their work is pressure tested and warranted for 12 months

  13. Next mountain bike...about 40% complete. 2021 Specialized Enduro, stretched to 180mm travel at both ends. Big wheel downhill trail smasher. 😎

  16. So my headers almost wrecked someone else's bike last night... 😂 I was following two sport bikes from a left turn lane into an entrance ramp, from 50 yards or so. With the headers and Delkevics, when VTEC kicks in the bike goes from a V-8 rumble to a shrieking V-4 race bike sound. When it switched on one of the riders (clearly now a beginner) did a big, swerving-S panic stop with no idea what was going on... 🤦‍♂️

  17. I think it's a love it or hate it thing. Sure did not like removing my fairings for an oil change last night, or any other trivial reason. Sure do like riding a full fairing VFR more than I liked riding my half fairing Bandit. Prefer the looks of fairings so...if I wanted something past the VFR we are back to things like the Kawasaki Z whatever.

  18. Sigh . . . sign of the times. Is this segment now "Adventure Touring"? Apparently they all have to look like that. Well, maybe they'll sell, I guess we'll see. There won't be one in my garage sorry to say. I feel like it's 2010 again, saying to Honda "hey, what we really want is . . . " but clearly that's falling on deaf ears. The market has moved on and I have not. Best to them - fortunately there are enough spares both new and from bikes to pick off of to keep what I have going a good long time. YMMV

  19. Sooo, the snow is melting and it's warmer in the garage so I started playing; I've lost about 25 lbs in the past couple of months so I thought the bike should look slimmer too. I will likely never go on a long multiday ride on this and don't own luggage for it so this isn't a comfort issue, although I will probably get a Sargent seat for it. I could swap the stock tail back on in an hour or so. The cranked up muffler is temporary until I get my VFRD headers, I plan on making my own mid pipe and mounting a nice carbon or Ti muffler tucked up tight to the tail. I need to make proper mountings for it yet, make an inner fender, and rig up a tail light. Ignore the black vinyl below the front of the seat, I was just trying to cover that unfinished area to see what a filler panel would look like. Not sure about the silver yet, plan was to paint it black, but it looks okay as is so I may just paint the trunk lid to match for now and decide later. The 1000R decal will come off, or at least the 10 will become an 8. Rear MC reservoir will be relocated, this is just a rough fit. Opinions and suggestions welcome.
