Typical scene Kiwi back roads - local King Country loop.
This sums up tiny NZ towns, this is the end of the main street of Aria! There is the obvious stuff like the cows and the poster for the local Sheepdog trials. Also NZ is a new country so we cherish any history we can find, hence we build good fences around a chimney that would be less than 200 years old wheras in England they have so many 800 year old castles they use them to store hay. Maori place names are also interesting, Kumara is a sweet potato, good tasting too that can be easily grown anywhere, maybe this road produced the best ones?
The road through Aria is a nice detour to avoid the less exciting parts of State Highway 3 between Piopio and Awakino. Hardly adds any time and is all sealed and generally the livestock is on the correct side of the fences ...
