I took the swivel mount of a camera monopod and screwed it onto a RAM camera baseplate. This was a straight swap, I only needed to put a large washer between the baseplate and the swivel head so it could rotate freely and I used a much shorter substitute for the 10" long swivel arm that comes standard with the mono/tripods.
