oldboyracer
I love the vfr ,which is why I won’t get another bike for my type of riding. However I tend to do lots of gravel roads and I’m sure my luck will run out one day and she will end up on her side ,very undignified.I would like to keep my good fairings good. Who has done the cheap Chinese fairing thing ,and how bad are they. Suspension was upgraded a few years ago by Jamie, he did a great job with the brief being ,I do lots of gravel and dirt , no complaints here. Really hard to get second hand ones here in oz. Member Contributer VFR78 Posted December 28, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted December 28, 2020 Ah!, the Aussie bush, magnificent. That front tyre looks interesting, what are you using? And do they last? My son in law did the Chinese fairing thing on his CBR954 and it was fine. Not perfect but good enough for your purposes. Member Contributer Cogswell Posted December 28, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted December 28, 2020 That would seem a great idea to preserve those rare 50th Ann. fairings.
oldboyracer
The front is a shinko trail master ,I've done about 2k on them so far and they seem to last ok. On the road they grip alright except you run off the side playing boy racer. Finally using all the tyre I pay for lol
Member Contributer VFR78 Posted December 28, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted December 28, 2020 Fantastic, who would want a GS when you have a VFR. Thanks for the info. I have always thought chunky tyres on my bike would make for more freedom when out and about.
Member Contributer DannoXYZ Posted December 28, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted December 28, 2020 I use el-cheapo Chinese fairings on my Ninja 250 race-bike. They fit just like OEM fairings and requires just some minor adjustments to mounting holes with round file. I think my mounting brackets are bent from crashes as I have to make similar adjustments with OEM fairings too. I get to buy 4 Chinese fairings for same cost as 1 fibreglass race fairing set. But fibreglass set breaks the same in 1-2 crashes anyway. Look for vendors with high-ratings on eBay and money-back guarantee. At least eBay/PayPal will give you refund if you have issues with a vendor keeping their promises.

ChikhaiBardo
Are these cheap Chinese fairings you’re all referring to? https://www.gomototrip.com/product/1998-2001-honda-vfr800-oem-red-motorcycle-fairing-kit/ and I see multiple kits on eBay as well. What other options are there? I have only ever owned a 94 and 95 VFR750F but I’m considering a 99 and fairings are always my first concern! What other options are there? Member Contributer DannoXYZ Posted January 16, 2021 Member Contributer Share Posted January 16, 2021 There's lots of selections. Actual manufacturer is unknown as there's probably at least 30 different Chinese factories cranking them out. You can't buy from Honda any more, you're not getting OEM anyway. Will just be getting one of generic fairings from China. Always check out reviews and store-ratings. https://www.ebay.com/itm//164106542721 https://www.fairingmaster.com/vfr800-9801-c-65_79_148/ https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000991678579.html One of few making their own. Very good, strong fibreglass race fairing, lighter and can survive twice as many crashes. Some models don't have headlight cut-outs, and you have to drill mounting holes. https://www.airtech-streamlining.com/honda-fairings-seats-fenders-parts/VFR8001998-01.htm

I don't know about PayPal, but Ebay's " buyer protection" was an absolute joke the one time I engaged it - worthless. I would give it a negative rating if I could. ChikhaiBardo
So can you still acquire OEM fairings for the 5th gen from Honda? I’m not finding it if so.
Member Contributer DannoXYZ Posted January 18, 2021 Member Contributer Share Posted January 18, 2021 Not likely any OEM fairings left from Honda.
Careca
No you can't . Discontinued. Are you worried about breaking/cracking your fairings or just scratches/general damage. If its the latter get some clear protective film put on . I have done mine but for different reasons. Touring and didn't want the luggage/tank bag scratching my paintwork. All you can do is buy second hand .
