spencerwhite147
Hi all, New member, first post. I just picked up an '83 Interceptor 750 to take on as a restoration project. Decent shape, but the prior owner dropped it and cracked the tank pretty good. Pretty rusty inside as well. So rather than try to fix this one, I'm looking for a replacement. Does anyone out there have a solid tank they'd be willing to sell? My preference is a red & white '83 tank with good paint & decals. But I'm going to wind up repainting the bike a some point so other compatible years and paint schemes are fine. BTW, this is my second '83 (see photo in back of truck). I bought my first one back in '86 (see grainy photo) when I was 18. Kicked myself ever since I sold it and so now I'm finally righting that wrong! Thanks! - Spencer
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted October 28, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted October 28, 2020 Hi Spencer! Welcome to VFRD from across the pond! If I may give you an advice..... Prior to buying a tank (the one in the picture is well past its prime), remove that tank and lift the valve covers. Inspect the cam lobes and followers. Once you are satisfied they are peachy, plunder the piggy bank!!!
squirrelman
because of the cam problems no VF will ever be worth what a VFR is, so that would be a far better resto project.
