High minimum !!!

Hi guys,

yesterday I picked up the bike from my mechanic where I made him change the air and clean the throttle bodies (there was a slight patina of dirt with greasiness). They cleaned it with a clean cloth slightly soaked with specific product for cleaning throttle bodies.

Now the bike has a rather high minimum speed (about 1600/1800rpm). I have traveled several kilometers since yesterday and accessed and turned off the bike many times but the idle speed does not return normal at about 1100rpm.

What can I do to fix it ? Have they done any damage in cleaning ? Is there a procedure to reset the control unit that manages the idle speed ?

Thank you

Did you go back to the mechanic to complain of the high idle? Did you notice the high idle when you picked up the bike from the mechanic?

Take it straight back to the mechanic ASAP! as they have caused the issue!

The danger in doing this is damaging the molybdenum coating which make the butterflies seal correctly.

If the coating is damaged this allows additional air to bypass the butterflies increasing idle speed. The Service Manual warns of using any throttle body cleaners that can potentially damage this coating.

The other thing to check is if the throttle bodies were removed for cleaning is that the connecting rubber boot clamps are properly tightened.

Perhaps a talk with a Honda specialist service center might give you better advice. They might be able to re-calibrate the two TP Sensor angles to correct this issue, with the HDS Honda Diagnostics System, but if not, you could be looking at new throttle bodies and idle re-calibration.

Good Luck.

Thank you very much for the feedback, I'll take her to a Honda center and have her check the minimum high.
I performed the reset procedure found here in the forum (disconnect the battery for 2h, hang up and then start the engine without touching anything and wait for it to warm up until the fan turns on then turn it off and on again). For a day it went well with regular low idle at 1100rpm, yesterday I ride in the mountains and again high idle. I hope there is no mechanical damage to the throttle body. I will update you as soon as I have news

Thanks

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi guys, after three weeks and a lockdown I took the bike back from the mechanic and I tested it well (about 500km, two full full loads). Now it goes as if not better than before.

To bring the minimum back to normal operation, two complete diagnostic resets were needed.

Unfortunately the procedure to disconnect the battery, turn on and leave it at idle until the fans turn on has no effect, it is like fresh water when the suction parameters change deeply (it was the first throttle body cleaning after 70.000km ...........).

If it happens to someone then the only solution is to have the diagnosis connected and reset the parameters once or even twice.
