Shandit66 Posted September 14, 2020 Share Posted September 14, 2020 Due to back injuries and....new offspring....my 2004 VFR has been in storage for about 4 years. I just sold my bike and need to move it to the new house, on a trailer. Ideally, I'd like to restart it - if its not too much effort. 1 - the battery will be dead, so I'll get a new one. 2 - the fuel was NOT drained, but an additive was put in. I'll syphon out all I can on the assumption the gas is all gone bad. Then add in new stuff a - should I put in any additives to clean out lines / injectors? b - some articles indicated replacing the fuel lines. 3 - anything else I need to worry about? Member Contributer BusyLittleShop Posted September 14, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted September 14, 2020 It goes without saying add fresh oil and filter but then activate the kill switch and then hit the starter until the red low oil pressure light extinguishes... this will ensure fresh oil flows between the crankshaft and journals... this action is prudent in order to prevent any metal to metal wear on start up... because after 4 years the risk is that the oil separating these critical parts is inadequate... Good idea to get the oil circulated first. But the Kill Switch will kill the starter. Might need to remove Main Fuse B and leave the Kill Switch to RUN. I've summarized it as follows. 1 - New battery (will likely boost it off the car) 2 - Check airbox for vermin (that…..I would not have thought of…. I guess you speak from experience? 🙂 3 - Change the oil 4 - Remove Fuse B (to prevent ignition) 5 - Hit the starter to circulate the fluids - without ignition 6 - Install Fuse B and try to start her up! I’d like push off regular maintenance until its actually running. So if successful, then look at items like: New brake & clutch fluid Tires Questions: A - Do fuel lines need to be replaced?
