Scotty750
Hey wrenchers, Another noob question. Assuming the bike has not been run in awhile, should I be able to hear the fuel pump when I first turn the key to ON, before hitting the Start switch? TIA! Member Contributer COS_VFR Posted June 14, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted June 14, 2020 The fuel pump does not run continuously like a motor, it pulses and does so slowly at idle. I have never noticed hearing my fuel pump run before I hit the start switch. Looking at the wiring diagram, the fuel pump relay gets power from the ignition control module. I am not sure if the relay is powered if the engine is not turning over. Does someone know for sure?
Member Contributer RC36B Posted June 14, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted June 14, 2020 The fuel cut off relay make sure the pump only can run when engine is turning - the pump will not pulse (run) before you hit start. To test pump disconnect relay and short black blue wires (color from memory)
Member Contributer RC36B Posted June 14, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted June 14, 2020 Check the colors - short black with black/blue. ignition on. Relay is located next to pump - has a 3 wire connector - last wire is red/yellow
Scotty750
Thanks all, this is a huge help. Shorted the relay wires, pump ran. No mistaking, it's pretty loud. Now what tells the relay to turn the pump on&off? Some pressure sensor?
