Manny78
Installing a Hella Supertone horn to replace the oem item. How imperative is it to run a relay?
Member Contributer mello dude Posted May 12, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted May 12, 2020 Dont know what current those horns will run, but its a very good idea to add a relay as the horn circuit on the bike is kinda wimpy.. I found that the front fairing hanger has a good open spot for a mount on the 5th gen, making all the wiring close and simple. (I did drill a hole.) I had a relay that had a mount bracket on it, making it super simple. Perfect spot for it. Added a piece of rubber for anti rattle and its good to go. With fairing installed, plenty of space for working around. Green/white + stock horn wires. || Lower wire with red = Pos to horn. ||| Red wire on top = Pos lead to battery. Manny78
Great info as always Mello Dude. No inline fuse needed? Thanks
Member Contributer JZH Posted May 13, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted May 13, 2020 Horns actually draw quite a lot of current. The Stebel Nautilus draws 18A (albeit briefly), for example. But everything should go through a fuse. Ciao, JZH

Thanks I have a fuse holder for this at the battery positive connection like the wire diagram.... Definitely use a fuse... AutoZone or Amazon is a good source for that.
