Hawkster
Can anyone tell me if you need to remove the axel to be able to replace the rear disc on a 96? I manage to get the old one off with a little force with only removing wheel and brake calliper(maybe that was the wrong way) but the aftermarket replacement will not go on the same way. Member Contributer FromMaine Posted April 28, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted April 28, 2020 This is all I can find in the Honda Service manual. The diagram and the instructions seem to show the disc and rear axle removed as a unit.
Hawkster
That is awesome info thank you. I will let a bike shop take care of that job. Don't have the tools to take it on myself.
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted April 28, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted April 28, 2020 It is possible to remove exhaust/out of the way move brake caliper out of the way loosen rotor Tap the axle out just enough to wiggle the rotor over the "head"of the axle #
Member Contributer JZH Posted April 28, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted April 28, 2020 I agree, it's not very difficult to get the axle out. Once you manage to un-torque the big nut, that is. Un-stake and loosen it before you take the bike off the side stand and before you remove the chain... Ciao, JZH
