Rear Disc Replacement

Can anyone tell me if you need to remove the axel to be able to replace the rear disc on a 96?  I manage to get the old one off with a little force with only removing wheel and brake calliper(maybe that was the wrong way) but the aftermarket replacement will not go on the same way.

This is all I can find in the Honda Service manual. The diagram and the instructions seem to show the disc and rear axle removed as a unit.DSCF3415.thumb.JPG.9c21cd506841ef8554647b41f8ecc70d.JPGDSCF3416.thumb.JPG.b5606ad5e95530b1cf51ef4c7d87fed2.JPG

It is possible to

remove exhaust/out of the way

move brake caliper out of the way

loosen rotor

Tap the axle out just enough to wiggle the rotor over the "head"of the axle #5

I agree, it's not very difficult to get the axle out.  Once you manage to un-torque the big nut, that is.  Un-stake and loosen it before you take the bike off the side stand and before you remove the chain...
