Hey everyone, Scott here sometimes known as "Aced It" on other forums. I'm 53, I don't care for long walks on the beach, screw Pina Coladas (I'll have a whiskey please), and I'm a Honda freak. That is all.

 

... Haha, well I have a bit more to say still.

 

Where to start. Well, I'm a motor head. I grew up around hot-rods and custom cars. I owned a speed shop and managed a race team in the late 90's into the early 2000's. I love bikes and I love customizing as a hobby. I recently acquired a 2006 Honda VFR Interceptor to add to my stable. There's a story behind how it came to me, but first I add that my other rider is my custom '91 Honda Shadow VLX. I also have several customs in process but they have slowed due to life changes in the past couple years and current situations. Those include a 1980 Honda CB750, a 1978 Yamaha XS750 kicker, and a comissioned 1978 Honda GL1000 Goldwing that I'm building for a friend. Nothing is going fast here, other than the VFR, lol. A few past customs I'm proud of are my 2003 Honda ACE 750, a 1982 Honda CB900, a 1998 Suzuki Intruder 800, a restoration of a 1982 Honda Magna V45, etc, etc, etc. And I've had plenty of other scoots in the past too.

 

Okay, to the story of how the VFR became mine. About 5 years ago a young neighborhood friend called me and said that a friend of hers was having trouble with his scoot. She asked if I'd mind helping him, and I agreed of course. Since then I've done a lot of work on this young man's bikes and have treated him like a son. He's an awesome kid that I've seen graduate high-school and go on to becoming a UPS driver making $30 an hour. He's a go-getter in life, believes strongly in family and friends, and I'm proud of that. I've never considered charging him for any work, although I bought his 1998 Suzuki Intruder (yes, same one from above) when he lost all oil and blew the engine.

 

A few weeks ago he comes to hang out and help me a bit with the GL1000 build. He shows me a picture on his phone of a 2001 Yamaha FZ1 and asks what I think. I said it was a cool bike, but he better not be thinking of selling his '84 Honda Sabre V65 (beautiful bike). He said of course not and said he thought about it for me. My reply was that I was not in a state right now to purchase another bike. He then proceeds to tell me he wanted to do something nice for me. After some time of me trying to talk him down, he told me to get over it and let's start looking. Damn, I mean DAMN! I've never had anyone do something like this for me. He said it was for those years of me working on his bikes, from maintenance to overhauls, and never asking for a dime. Fast forward, I found the Interceptor. It's a one-owner bike, 68K miles but fully maintained with all service records, Two-Brothers exhaust, excellent Michelin Pilot tires, smoked windscreen and I believe that's all. Since I acquired her I eliminated the plastic rear plate hanger, removed the intake snorkel, completed the PAIR and flapper mod, and lowered the rear via the triangle method and front.
