4th gen fuel leak - fuel link pipe

FlyingDeck

Recommended Posts

Pulled my 4th gen Aussie spec VFR750 out of storage after 5 years and working through the issues - last started about 3 years ago before battery died. Carbs were ok with resin or stuck floats etc so Got her running but fuel leaking from one of the fuel link pipe o-rings.

Anyone know what size these are and where I can get a set?

Thanks heaps Flying Deck

There are a lot of rebuild kit options on eBay, with varying contents and prices.  There used to be someone selling stainless steel replacement link tubes, but I didn't see them today.  That seller might sell or know the o-ring sizes, but you can also simply get an assortment of fuel-resistant o-rings and see what fits.

I had some of the 'fuel rails' replaced as they had cracks in them so everything was replaced, it was done by Chris Walker Motor Cycles in Grantham, he is a Kawasaki dealer and very good as well, I went to them as I had the bike on their Dyno shortly before I had my fuel leak that alerted me to the problem

Here in USA the HF O-ring kit #10 is the one to use.

with a new ring, the fuel tube has a slightly tight fit into the carbs.

usual failure is due to rust particles bridging the width of the ring, allowing fuel to seep past.

Thanks guys. So the blue box with the fuel pic (last on right In pic from Dutchy’s post).

Aussie eBay stock is generic rubber. Different colour boxes but no mention of application

Anyone know if any of these people will suit?

Oh and thanks Squirrelman. Have had fuel rail out and it was quite clean. cleaned it up and refitted but didn’t fix it. Your fuel rail pic is from a 1st gen? I had to replace my rails due to cracking. Got some aluminium ones someone was selling in US a few years back.

  • 3 weeks later...

So the o-ring kit did not have the correct size o-ring :(

But now I think leak is not from o-ring having removed suspect carb and fuel rail, cleaned things up, inverted to cause float valve to close under gravity loading, then pressure tested (ie big breath and attempt to blow air through fuel rail).

Reassemble and still leaks under pump pressure. Man it is impossible to see up under the v-4 carb bank to pinpoint exact location of leak! Think I need to set up carbs off the bike but connected to pump so I can try and pin point it.

Any suggestions welcome.
