Member Contributer FJ12Ryder Posted December 9, 2018 Member Contributer Share Posted December 9, 2018 Thanks for the link to that thread. Seems like the stator/R/R relationship isn't as straightforward as one would think. I'll have to do a bit more reading up on this stuff.
Member Contributer FJ12Ryder Posted December 11, 2018 Member Contributer Share Posted December 11, 2018 After doing much reading I'll have to say that my views about the operation of the VFR alternator and R/R are a bit simplistic. I thought that the excess voltage was discharged as heat, come to find out it isn't that simple and certain types of R/R's can probably contribute to increased heat in the stator windings due to the way they handle excess voltage, how much heat seems to be a matter of debate. You learn something new all the time. Thanks for hitting me with a heads-up on this Thtanner. Much appreciated.
Member Contributer thtanner Posted December 11, 2018 Member Contributer Share Posted December 11, 2018 I always thought the excess energy was shunted off as heat myself, too. Honestly just happy to try anything that gives it a chance of lasting longer, because some stators are no longer available OEM (i.e. 2002 - 1 year only part #)
