Finally, the bike I have been looking for..

I just picked up a 2015 VFR800F (base model) in red. What a liberating ride home.

From entry-level 250-500, supersport, to adventure/dual sport bike, all of the bikes I've had have been lacking in one way or another. This bike just feels.. perfect. I can see myself owning this bike for over a decade.

Anyway, I love this bike. I'm thinking of maybe some tank pads, centerstand, any other recommendations?

Also, this is my first bike with a hydraulic clutch. I expected it to have a much lighter pull, lighter than a cable clutch at least. What's up with that? I mean it's really heavy.

One thing I'm a little concerned about -- this is a 2015 bike, that I bought in 2018. I believe it had a few (like 3, maybe?) miles on it when I bought it. I mentioned how oil degrades over time and the salesperson kinda denied it, which surprised me because he said he went to UTI, the mechanics school. What do you guys think? Am I good or should I run out and change my oil ASAP?

Anyway, glad to be an owner of this wonderful machine 😁

Welcome to the VFR, Sigint!

I’m not sure oil degrades as such but condensation in the crankcase can add a bit of water to it over time if it’s oarked out in the cold.

Yours was probably stored in a nice warm dealer showroom so you’ll be ok. Follow the oil change intervals, especially the first few, and you’ll have a lovely long lasting machine.

Sadly the center stand kit is not available for our bikes as an accessory anymore. I spent over a year trying.

Check this out, however..

First oil change is @ 500-600 miles. You should be fine to do it then.

Just a thought - the c-stand looks to be available as a spare - seems like it could be pieced together though it would probably cost more than a kit.  Honda might still be selling these in Europe - I've gotten things from London that were no longer available in the US.

The kit is not sold anywhere, worldwide. I've ordered from about 30 shops and everyone refunds me. It was a mission for over a year 😞

The Kit P/N is 08M70-MJM-D00 for reference. You can piece it together via OEM part numbers.

Regarding the center stand... WTF??  This bike is 3 years old, not 30!  Absolutely ridiculous that it's practically unobtainable.

It's sadly because the US was the only market they sold them without the center stand, and a majority of people who bought the 'standard' edition bought the kit most likely, depleting stock. They have just not replenished stock even though you can piece-meal the parts. Come on Honda, I praise you too much for you to leave me hanging like that =/

So when you coming down south to break her in on Palomar Mountain? I ride there just about every Sunday. Let's ride! 😎

Oh man, that's quite a trip!  I might have to make a little mini staycation out of it 😁

Well, I got this brilliant idea today to just call the dealer's service department and ask them about the history of the bike... They bought it from Honda on sale/closeout and it was prepped 4 months ago. :laughing6-hehe:

This is what having bad past experiences with dealer service departments does to you. And the clutch just takes some getting used to. It's got a lot of fluid in the reservoir compared to something like a Ducati with those tiny little cups of fluid. I'm guessing that's what gives it a bit of a harder pull.

Hi and welcome,

You will get used to the clutch, I found adjusting the lever setting helped a little and lighter/summer gloves.

The centre stand is great for maintenance but generally I use the side stand 90% of the time. ABBA stands are a great alternative to have around at home.

All the best and enjoy your new machine.

Cheers

Simon

Just a guess but that looks a lot like a 5th or 6th gen stand.

Yep, same stand as the 6G; some of the other parts differ slightly. You could get it second hand but the actual stand part isn't the costly item, its the rest of the stuff needed.
