Skipping a bit of wiring harness junk... This is the seat cowl release. I like to shave the lock from the CBR tail cowl, so it needs a new method of opening.

It's made from a spare release cable (from the pile, not sure what it came from anymore), a spent .45ACP case, stainless 10mm cap screw and a piece of 1/2" AL rod. I had to modify the oem latch a bit to get the cable pulling in the right spot.

Case was cut down in the lathe and the cable end cast in epoxy inside the shell.

Skipping harness stuff again, show a little paint work. Doing a helmet to match the bike theme.

The plan is brushed silver with a riveted panel look, topped with pearl green and a yellow pinstripe to give it the old warbird look.

Taping the helmet was a pain, scuffing new paint is easy though!

Fine silver base

20180131_192551_zpsguycejai.jpg

I took all the parts home with no clear on, then scuffed the areas that were staying silver with a fine white scotch brite pad to give a brushed metal look. Then started laying pencil lines guided by pinstripe tape (nerve wracking on the contoured stuff!).

20180201_140356_zpsm2ienbii.jpg

Then laid out a few hundred custom rivet decals I had made ( @throttlepimp is the man!). They are chrome vinyl dots with shadow crescents printed on them. These were the tools, and the sheets were full when I started!

Time for some documentation of the moto-neurosurgery...

The patient on the table with some preliminary excess marked
20171213_201307_zps00pf4qor.jpg

20171213_201220_zpst0x8mcji.jpg

I had a to add a shelf for the ecu. I welded a plate to the same subframe brace that I attached my undertail to.

20180102_161136_zpss9zk4hiz.jpg

20180102_161116_zpsp8pacpwg.jpg

I like to work my way from the middle out when rebuilding harnesses, usually from the battery, but in this case it was easier to start at the back from the ecu. I started by taking pics of the connectors and then cutting out a large section of the wires.

New terminals came from cycleterminal.com, highly recommend them.

20171221_110453_zpsfywpckpp.jpg

I had my son remove all the rubber seals so I could reuse them

20171222_160525_zps8tteplg1.jpg

Reinstalled seals on the shortened wires and crimped the new terminals

IMG_20180105_105220_335_zpsu8ngogwj.jpg

Here's a better visual of how much was chopped out

IMG_20180112_082032_744_zpswvi7jgvp.jpg

Still have to make all this fit somehow

20180104_172802_zpsxvb5ub0l.jpg

I had to buy a new oem plastic tray to chop as all the dummies on ebay wanted new price for broken parts, and the one I had was broken. It hides a lot of the wiring nicely

20180118_153121_zpsul8luy80.jpg

With PC installed

20180118_161552_zpstibmdvmk.jpg

Bit of a squeeze, but everything fits and I retained some "trunk space" under the rear cowl by keeping everything under the seat. That's the rear wiring done save for the taillight plug.

Motogadget likes getting your money, so of course they don't offer a water temp sensor that threads into the oem Honda spot like Koso does. So I made this

20180708_161145_zpsft2d2t5p.jpg

20180708_161300_zpso7hmgxrs.jpg

20180709_194756_zpsltpsf1l0.jpg

Had to unwrap the harness to pull a couple more leads and grounds and integrate the motoscope gauge wiring

20180709_194823_zpsvfi6zbek.jpg

Forgot the left side, but here's the right side pass-thru hole for the Rizoma bar end signals

Airbox snugged down and wiring tucked in

20180718_144646_zpscjy3baht.jpg

Time to drop the tank on, add a bit of gas and check for leaks

20180718_162817_zpstutdmub5.jpg

All good there, need a coolant overflow still. Didn't feel like hanging anything off the motor on the right side,  opted to make this tube tank and mount it low on the left, off what was a fairing bracket mount tab.

Needs paint and loctite, then I can mount the sensor in the correct proximity to register the speedo impulses. :)

Damper stem base... if it looks familiar, it's because I used the same program to cut the fidget spinner for the speedo pickup.

Chucked the blank in the mill and finished the holes (I don't normally chuck cutters in drill chucks, btw...)

20180808_155416_zpsqy8nr2sc.jpg

20180808_155505_zpssiquapd4.jpg

I forgot to take a pic of the op, but I did have to ball mill a clearance groove to clear the tank flange

20180808_155723_zpscmgnt5ex.jpg

20180808_170440_zpsh7n2egsl.jpg

Had to do a little trimming in the lathe to fix the length, all good now. Stem is drilled & tapped for a small cross bolt because I'm a dumbass and drilled through instead of doing a deep counterbore for the stem, should have been drilled and tapped for a bolt in the bottom but it's stable enough as it is, save my spare for another time.
