Member Contributer Stray Posted July 22, 2018 Member Contributer Share Posted July 22, 2018 Hello All, Has anyone had luck fitting chainguards from other bikes to their VFRs? I’m running rear brake line through the swingarm and don’t want to refit the stock chain guard. If nothing fits I’ll have to fabricate one like Sebspeed and Halfrider but am lazy and would rather fit/modify something. Triumph SSSAs look surprisingly similar to VFRs so maybe one of those? What about Ducati, Aprillia or even BMW? Any advice gratefully welcomed. Stray

Member Contributer Stray Posted July 22, 2018 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 22, 2018 I can confirm that the early Crossrunner chain guard has exactly the same fixing points. Just had one delivered but it still has the brake line channels on top. Still looking for a smooth-topped simpler/lighter option. Stray

Member Contributer MadScientist Posted July 22, 2018 Member Contributer Share Posted July 22, 2018 I can confirm that the skidmarx hugger has a smooth top, however it has 3 small holes to mount the brake line brackets. These can be easily plugged with plastic automotive plugs or ignored. I used plugs that look like this:
Member Contributer Stray Posted July 24, 2018 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 24, 2018 Thanks MadScientist, another brilliant suggestion I didn’t know existed! But the price... What about chainguards off the VFR750? They look visually very similar. Also the NC21 and NC30? Has anyone done a transplant? Stray
Member Contributer JZH Posted July 29, 2018 Member Contributer Share Posted July 29, 2018 They're generally going to be shorter, as their swing arms are shorter. And mounting points are usually different--sometimes a lot different. Probably more of an issue with huggers than chain guards, though. Thurn used to make some chain guards that looked okay (not sure why most aftermarket chain guard manufacturers seem to feel the need to remind everyone that the bike is a "VFR" or a "CBR"...)
