triodo
Hello guys I need your help! My VFR RC36II EU started to have afterburns in deceleration : note that the bike runs well during the driving. I clogged the exhaust silencer and the engine goes off : this should prove that there should be no leakeages in the exhaust system. The only think that I did is to replace the air filter with a new one...but no benefits! Spark plugs has 2000 km only...... Spark plugs no inspected yet..... Can be the root cause? Recently I used STP cleaner in the fuel : Can be that STP affected the spark plugs in some way? Spark plugs has 2000 km only...... maybe the use of STP is not connected to this problem .... a coincidence... I have 58000 km (36000 miles) on Odometer ; no STP cleaner in the fuel anymore. Suggestions?? it's time to open the carbs? Thanks in advance Yari
Member Contributer Egg on Leggs Posted April 8, 2018 Member Contributer Share Posted April 8, 2018 The STP may have partially burnt off carbon in the exhaust, the remains may be acting like a candle wick. Does this backfiring only occur on a closed throttle?
triodo
Thanks for your reply! Yes it appaers only at closed throttle and only when ,after a certain running time , the engine has reached the rigth temperarure ... so it is WELL WARM..... before the problem doesn't appear! Suggestions? Thanks again
Member Contributer Egg on Leggs Posted April 8, 2018 Member Contributer Share Posted April 8, 2018 It will pass, the carbon will burn off and the fuel in the exhaust will not ignite.
squirrelman
you could try opening up the idle mixture screw on each carb about 1/4 turn to enrichen the idle mixture and eliminate the backfire. could also be a sign that idle jets are partly clogged and need cleaning.
