I had tried some in both red and purple/uv in my 5th gen and they were not bright enough. I ended up with blue across the board and it works fine, but it wasn't my first choice of color. The leds I used were red for the screens and for the tach I used blue for the outside and left red in the center for the needle . The gauge it self is made to fade the higher in rpm you go so it starts of blue and starts turn blueish / purple at 7k and gets purple at 13. The oval colour looks more blue i would say . . The brightness is perfect.
