How are Chinese fairing companies making tank cover?

This set of RWB Chinese fairings seem to have a tank cover. As far as I know, the 6th gen has a metal tank correct? How would the Chinese plastic RWB tank cover fit on the 02-07 VFR.

i just came across it looking for frame sliders.

Thanks...

While long, this thread gives some real world experience trying to fit one of those.   As I recall, in the end he finally threw in the towel on the tank cover and had the tank painted.

Great discussion there. It's a shame they didn't re hash the idea from the 600rr with the plastic gas tank. I wish more motorcycles had those plastic tanks.

Triumphs went from plastic tanks on the Sprint ST to Steel when they realised that bikes used for touring use magnetic tank bags.

Plus I have heard rumours (possibly urban myth) that the plastic tanks can be affected by the ethanol in modern fuels.

No myth. Aprilia and Ducati have both had tank swelling issues in the past with plastic tanks.

Is that because of the ethanol or merely the expansion of gasoline products under high heat/direct sunlight?

I am curious.

I don't claim to know it all. Having more experience in the automobile world, the biggest foul I was aware of when it comes to ethanol-blended fuels is that the alcohol/ethanol attracts moisture so in vehicles that don't get driven often and that have metal fuel tanks, the owner should avoid putting ethanol-blended gasoline in them. Even here in the States, I have seen cars that were parked in non-climate controlled garages purportedly for ~6 months in high humidity locales (peninsular Florida) that the interior of the gas tank(s) had a substantial amount of rust in it.

Ethanol having a deleterious effect on a plastic fuel tank is something I have not heard of...it has always been steel/metal tanks I have heard/Understood to be adversely impacted by prolonged exposure to ethanol-blended gasolines.

It's the ethanol. It attracts water and if bike sits too long plastic tanks can swell. It absorbs the moisture, or something, iirc.

The details you can find on the aprilia forum and elsewhere no doubt.

The fix is Caswell coating of the inside of the tank after it dries out and shrinks back to size.

I have not had the issue with my Apes, and not 100% on the details.
