In a case of "been there, done that",  not that IF this pin was pulled forward, a flat wasjer BEHIND the sprocket may have fallen out....

:goofy:

and while open, inspect the starter clutch for crack.s...

Thanks!! In this early in the morning I stood there wondering were that one came from!

Is it hard to spot cracks in the matter of twisting and turning or is it more obvious? ?

no cracks, nor was the washer out of place

That's good, but the cracks are somewhat hard to spot, unless you know what they look like.  If you'd like a second (or third, or fourth...) opinion, post some pictures.

Thing is, what is a man to do once he finds a crack?   I could have sold redslut's starter clutch 4 times over....  :-(

Nope, no cracks fortunately ? didnt take more photos but was eager to refill with oil, start it up, run it hot, tap out the oil and refill with new oil again.

Runs smooth

As soon as the cold leaves, just below -10 now, and the snow goes away i'll take it out for clutcht tests.

Did pour in carb cleaner in the tank also. I guess it helps otherwise it'll have that placebo effect ??

So. So far the left hand side big fairing is sanded and base coated. After discusions with the wifey I clear coated it 3 times as it is and waiting for wrapping folie. Thinking on how to reinforce the screw holes without ruining the finish...

Forgot to ask, due to curiousness, what happens IF the washer is missing?

Haven't got a Scooby...

Other than reducing friction/wear on the gear and engine side.

Troubleshooting done. As the cogs on the transfer gears are worn down, it doesn't ingage efficient to the starter engine. Thus, the rattling noice. So. New gears for the transfer gear (#1 in Dutchy's picture)

Never mind, i got it ?

But. Is it, the big "lid", suppose to lign up with the bigger cog behind it when mounted? In the previous pick, it shows an offset.

So, when i reassemblied it, I just put it on the rod and pushed it in place

Are the markings on the starter clutch going to be in a certain place?

So. I didnt panic at all. ?

Read up a little more. The starter clutch cannot be mounted wrong due to the splines and its going to be pushed all the way in.

So. Now. I've have the clutch case mounted/demounted 4 times now. I know how to do this now ?? hopeful on not getting any bad sounds from it.

I inspected the starter clutch and all the cogs to be sure and I have no cracks. ?
