mitchb
Hey all new to these forums, currently building an '85 VF1000F which is about 80% complete just a few more things to go. Will no doubt have a few questions but one to start with, does anyone know of any radiator hose kits available or am I just best to take them all in to a shop and find the closest matching shelf items? mockup of what I'm going for with it
Member Contributer Sparrow75 Posted August 10, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted August 10, 2016 Mitchb, That looks fantastic so far! Is that a stock blue/silver colour for that year? Never seen it before. Is the minimalist tail from another bike, or something you fabricated yourself? Keep posting pics of the progress!
mitchb
Cheers @Sparrow75 yep the '85 VF1000F(G) and (F) I believe came in this scheme and also a Red/Silver variant. It's a great stock scheme so I won't be changing it and it has a nice patina on the stickers and striping, I don't want it super clean. Basically just made do with the rear half of the stock cowl moved it forward and up to shorten the rear end and align it with the line of the tank and chopped out a bit of the rear subframe and welded in some new steel. relocated the battery, fuel pump, other electrics etc all inside and CNC'd a baffled crank case breather box which will all sit under the seat pan. I wanted to create a sportier version of the VF but still respect it's original design without hacking it to bits. here's a few shots from the rear end make over! Member Contributer Sparrow75 Posted August 10, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted August 10, 2016 Mitchb, you are not worried that the rectifier will overheat under the seat like that? Some go so far as to add fans, even though its on the side. That's a fine looking crankcase breather box!

mitchb
Cheers guys! @Sparrow75 thanks for the warning wasn't aware of this issue, might have to think about some ventilation or relocating it to the underside so it can get a bit of air!
