Bummer, or so it looks like it....

A week ago the cast came of in the hospital and based on the x-ray, the surgeon stated that no operation was needed. "yeah, there is a bit of bone that should sit a bit higher, but that is not required" and "Just follow the exercise tips in this leaflet, we will have a look in 2 weeks"

No fysiotherapy was offered, so I had my GP give me a referral to a specialist clinic, I went there this afternoon.

They took the following picture and this surgeon wondered what books they studied....

He drew where the bone should sit and suggest operating (break and reset, 4 weeks cast + revalidation)...

The arrow is the drop currently in place..

The arrow shows where the angke should be (methink)

Will contact the surgeon in the hospital as by 16:30 they had left for the day...

Och well, focus on what is best for my clutch hand :-)

This morning I got "creative", probably not advised if you want to reuse the heads/parts.

Trick was figuring out what I had lying around that would do the trick...

cilinder had some water in it, as the crash dislodged the carbs btw

I'm sure you can get a hand at home Leon. Some old saying about idle hands and the devil comes to mind in your case.

Sorry to hear about the bones and possibly resetting it, Leon. On the other hand, as far as that small piece of bone in concerned, if it's like all other "spare parts" I usually find when I reassemble my VFR, you don't really need it.................................  :goofy:

Cheers!

Tomorrow 07:45 in the clinic for prep and then the operation to saw the bone, move up and affix with some titanium.

2/3 chance that that piece will have to come out at a later stage; I'm having 1st dibs on that part! :goofy:

Jeez Dutchy, it was bad enough that Redslut had to be parted out--now you too?  I hope it goes well.

Is this surgery no longer an option further down the track after trying the conservative path? You can't rewind surgery. Are you sure the status quo is not valid? Have you exhausted the conservative option and/or are you sure it will only make things worse? Are you certain the surgeon is not (overly) motivated by the economic returns? I know you have solicited second opinions. Just seems so soon.

Here's wishing you all the best!!

My experience is limited to my own ankle injury a few years ago, but in my case the "conservative option" was apparently chosen by someone rather incompetent, whose "conservatism" with respect to investigation allowed him to miss 2/3 of my injuries.  I can understand being suspicious of someone who stands to make money from surgery, but don't forget to be suspicious of someone whose life gets easier the less damage he finds...
