Do I Need A Relay For A Manual Fan Switch

I am wanting to install a manual fan switch on my '08. My plan was to tap into the ground wire between the fan motor and the thermostat and just run a manual switch to ground. Is this ok or should I be installing a relay?

Thanks!

I used a double throw waterproof switch from Cherry Electric - gives me fan on,off and normal operation. I used some spade terminals on the wiring so it's reversible.

The temp switch is just a ground. Power is on all the time to the fan. You just need a switch that grounds to the frame.

So if you hit the switch, fan is forced on, switch off is on auto, it will come on when needed.

Ignition not on = fan off.

Why would you want to force it off when bike is running and needing cooling?

No relay needed.

Fan off is useful for once the engine gets a lot of heat in it and then traffic clears and I can get up to speed. The fan continues to run, blowing air opposite the natural direction, stalling airflow through the left rad. Fan off can get things cooled down faster for the temp to drop enough for the thermo switch to shut off. Works great.
