Nuts. Well Nuts, Cowl Setting Nuts, Fairing Nuts

Bottom line question first, what is the part number for this? I mean the small threaded insert in the fairing. this is where a bolt goes through the inner fairing and attaches to the lower cowl, each half of the lower fairing cowl has 2, 1 of mine has gone missing.

They do not show this on my pdf part fiche or the online ones, which look to be the same thing. The fiche makes me look at this

90111-KW3-003 NUT (5MM)

but that is much longer at over 1/2 inch.

The fairing is off for an oil change. While the pan of hot dirty oil was sitting under the bike, a piece fell off from who knows where, and into the oil. It turned out to be this thing. It says wellnut 550 on the end, plus a couple very small letters and numbers. I don't see another like it on the bike with a quick search. Maybe some prior mechanic had it laying around and used it when the original piece went mia. Threads fit, but it does not seem to fit the fairing right. Not sure where it fell from.

So, short story long, what part # do I need? And where did that little part come from? :unsure2:

Lee I have a place where you can get well nuts from. They come in packs of 25 but the cost is way cheaper than buying OEM replacements if you're replacing them all.

http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/searchresults.asp?Search=Well+nuts

The parts that fit the 5 and 6 gen are 16242 and 1624.

Here's the spec sheet on them.

Thanks man, those look like a good alternative.

I may just use the piece that fell into my oil since I think I only need one.

^^ Wot e sed.

They start out long and thin, and get all wodged up when you tighten them. So, it's the same part. Very expensive from Honda. They are re-usable.

you can get them on ebay as well. They are actually pretty long, but are squeezed when you thread a bolt through them.

They're very squishable then.

Thanks for the info.

They will all fatigue and break eventually. They wait until you are ready to put everything back together then blammo. Broken. If you want to split a bag Lee I will pay half and take them off your hands. I already used up my supply.

Thanks Duc2V4, 16242 it is.

Bob I'll take you up on that.

The bag of 25 was $15.07, plus $2.12 tax.

Cue Sam Kinison voice for the shipping, $8.45, oh oh!!!!!!!!!!

So, they end up being about $1.03 each. Not so bad I guess.

The place is in Anaheim and is probably 20 minutes away from CaptBob. I will call mine and save the shipping charges.

Ordered, shipped, and received within 5 days to my door step via Amazon non-prime shipping. Total costs approximately .82 cents/pc. :fing02: My local dealer charges MSRP for them: $3.80 each!

Quite possibly...but then, that could also go for the originals! The ones without the writing may be fine, but I have noticed that the OEM ones seem to have the writing, as did the pics, so that's why I ordered them from them rather than eBay.
