Well, what a race!

Brilliant timing from MM and skillful too to manage slicks like that.

But hats off to CC. 2nd place and fastest lap of the race too.

Real shame for SR, to lose 3rd on the penultimate corner but 4th place on a Pramac Ducati is no mean feat.

VR was disappointing and as for JL.....

Marquez is riding with wisdom beyond his years, a force to be reckoned with. Jorge maybe rubbing Yamaha's nose in it? Crutchlow finally rode to his potential.

I say it's because his wife wasn't there :P

Rossi put the icing on the cake with his 3-4 lap refusal to come in. And his second bike had intermediates on it anyway. Unless MM does something really silly he will win this year. Cal had an awesome ride!

MM dirt biking in the gravel was impressive as was his handling of slicks in mixed conditions.

His fault for not coming in, although it must be hard to check out of the battle for the front. Team's fault for intermediates.

Overall Rossi's problems are of his own making

Interesting race. Marquez pulled off another one of his miracle rides. Miller did well, again!

It's going to be very hard to stop Marquez now - if Lorenzo won every remaining race and Marquez finished second each time, he'd still take the title. However, Lorenzo and Pedrosa are both usually stronger in the second half of the season and there's another 3-6 riders who can run at the front in wet conditions, so it could still be opened up again.

Rossi is a bit flaky, I can't see him being consistent enough to challenge for the title.

Marquez (and his team) played it brilliantly.  At one point it looked like he was the only one on the track actually racing a MotoGP bike!

Rossi not coming in when signalled was not the problem.  He wanted to stay with the group he was racing against, so it was the safest option to come in when they did.  The problem was that his second bike was shod with intermediates, which meant that the timing of his pit stop became irrelevant--intermediates were no match for slicks in the second part of that race.  Of course, I heard that it was Valentino's choice to have intermediates on the second bike, and if true, it was all his fault again.  His team should have made that choice for him, based on the track conditions as they developed during the race--not based on a best guess made before the start!

In any case, I think it will be a long while before anyone opts for intermedates again...

Gutted for Scott.  He rode a great race.  (As did Petrucci, before his crash and his bike lit on fire...)

Ciao,

In the post race interview MM stated that to him and the team, it was as the intermediates didn't exist, they never rode with them and knew nothing of their characteristics. Essentially they were going straight to slicks, it was just a matter of how soon to come in.

Crutchlow also ran a brilliant race. Coming all the way from the near back of the pack and beating the leading group he was following was awesome IMO. He said he was taking his cue when to come in based on watching Dovi and VR. If you watch the replay you can see him dive over at the last minute when he saw them heading into the pit. Another well played action.

^ Very smart play by Marquez and team. Motomatters article on the race says that a few of the riders lost a lot of time figuring out how the intermediates worked because they'd never ridden on them before - Marquez didn't have that problem! Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest solutions.

Excellent qualifying today ahead of tomorrow's Austrian GP.

The race could be an epic!

Yeah, that last minute squeeze in was something to see. For a split second it was a pole position, then the pole winner snuck by! Hoping to see some good racing tomorrow!

Just noticed that the top lines show up on the main page, inserting this to keep the main body from showing up. Hope it works!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow! Nice racing action in the beginning but ultimately the expected outcome came to pass but it was good to see JL and VR dice it up with the Ducs. Also glad MM was able to maintain his position even though Maverick was on his rear wheel for most of the race. I like the new MM2 (More Mature Marc Marquez), he still knows how to fight but more importantly, WHEN to fight.

I would have preferred to see Dovi on the top step but you can't take away the win from Iannone, he ran a great race and was well composed and not riding "manic" like he usually seems to be. I'm sure the celebrations in Balongna Italy will off the wall! Congrats Ducati! Congrats Iannone!

Either that or the guy next to him is only 10 years old. :491:

The 10 year old in front of him is none other than Loris Capirossi... now on the Motogp safety commission... A great rider, albeit not known for towering greatly over anyone. Maybe he is a smidgen taller than Toni Elías... LoL

Met Loris at Silverstone Moto GP a few years ago - he is indeed, quite short.

His girlfriend on the other hand, was very tall.

Woooohooooo....what a RACE!

Brilliant race from Cal, inspired tyre choice and a well deserved first win 35 years since Barry Sheene last won the premier class for Britain.

Excellent from VR too and particularly the 2 Avintia's.

And on top of out best Olympics ever, roll-on the British GP!

And I've just seen the post-match programme and the Moto 2 & Moto 3 results....best day for British motorcycle racing in.......forever?
