The VF500's rear is the same width as the RC51's front....

I like 'm skinny.... :goofy:

Skinny tires handle the best. I had an ANF125 (modern C90) as a winter run around a few years ago. I used to think my CBR600F4 handled well, until I rode the chicken chaser. It may not be fast but what a blast, in the wet on the roundabout near my work I could get it into a two wheel drift at 30mph, fantastic. After a few months riding that in the winter, getting back on the CBR was like steering a barge. So don’t knock skinny, they definitely handle the best 🙂

Went to work on the spare, leaking VF400 tank.

Well......

The PO had gone to work on it, putting some attempt at inside coating....

We cleaned time and time, sanded with emery paper, clean again. Put some flux on, but the solder kept bubbling a hole.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Ended up mixing 2 component metal and applying on top.   Leave to harden for 4 days as I will be riding through the Eiffel/Moezel area till Monday.

That means it will be rusted to fu<k inside then.

The epoxy will leak eventually IME. You need to braze the holes really. I would clean the insides. braze the big holes and then line it. Had to do similar on a GS1000 tank years ago. Was 100% leak proof for years  after.

However it all depends what you are trying to achieve.

Got to make sure the liner is compatible with ethanol rich fuels these days, apparently.

This pic makes the rear tire look like a bicycle tire. On a second look I see like a fish. My bad.

Past weekend I was in the Eiffel/Mosel region, riding with a group of former colleagues.  They rode home on the Sunday, I set out towards Luxemburg. Set my TomTom to find "windy roads, I regularly was let on roads with this sign

"only for local farmers"

bos4.JPG.9d2129ba8cc73d428645d802a32984d7.JPG

They are usually well paved and indeed, windy.

On one such road, I 1st encountered a collapsed bridge, with a make shift for pedestrians. Being on puma, no problemo.

The concrete gave way to a sturdy forest track, it was dry so onwards and forward!!  Tomtom telling me I was on an "unnamed road", about 1,000 meters away from a right turn....

Well...........    there was an incline that progressive became an INCLINE!!!  I was committed, but as it went to 20+ degrees I was getting a bit worried.....   The centre of the trail was still stone chipped :fing02:, the ruts L/R however were not .  Slid into one, stalled and slid backwards.....  This is no good.    But with no way to turn, full stream ahead Mustafa!!!

Here some depiction of the track...

GPS location is where I took the picture, bottom left the riverbed (collapsed bridge, end of paved road))

Shortly after the 347M altitutie it went up +20m. I reckon the angle was 20 degrees++++ :owned:

Who needs a Beemer GS if you have a VF eh?

So Dutchy, are you out to set a record for the longest thread in VFRD history? This would be quite the slog for a first time reader. Care to start new threads for each subject?

In any event, carry on.

Well, MaxSwell, I used to start a lot of topics.  Then a meltdown happened with mixed results on restore. Then a MAJOR meltdown occurred that wiped out manier post all the images (adding to the Photobucket palaver).

So by keeping a "blog post"I can back this one up myself, w/o having to do so for all posts...

Okay. I stand corrected. Having had a career in IT, where backup and restore was/is The First Law of Change, your approach is "highly logical" (says Spock).

With a spare tail and side panels (from the VF400), the spare panels will get a "yellow" make-over.

Saw this last weekend:

Of all the first gen VF bikes the 750 is my favourite. Finding a decent one was/is almost impossible though, which is why I defaulted to my second favourite, the VF500.

If I could start the adventure again I would definitely hold out for a 750.

Looking at the wall grouting I'd say that the house is either in the Republic of Ireland or in BoJoland.

I guess the former, near Limerick :goofy:   Good luck  with the sale.
