Member Contributer Dutchy Posted August 22, 2019 Author Member Contributer Share Posted August 22, 2019 Fitted the dent free tank, checked the cams on the rear bank while I was at it. Surface of the lobes looking good The chrome pipe in th coolant system was painted over (to hide corrosion?), so I fitted a better looking one...

jeremyr62
You have done a good job. It's now a nice bike. I had a brand new one exactly the same in 1985. I remember riding it and thinking it was so futuristic.

Has it been retired from service, or are the "sails" stowed until needed? I've read that a few are still in service, but many are now museums. Member Contributer Dutchy Posted August 30, 2019 Author Member Contributer Share Posted August 30, 2019 This one is retired methink for production purposes, but it is still operated by volunteers to keep it functional. But the one in our town (IJsselstein) for instance is in full use, producing flour etc. There is a covenant in place that if you want to open up a restaurant, bakery or any business that uses flour, in our town, you will use this local produce. Thus ensuring there is ample work!

Holy Socks Dutchy! That thing is almost as old as you are. What is now the USA was an English colony. New Netherland was established in North America around that time. jeremyr62
So why are you persisting with that mongrel? I thought you had a rack and topbox for the VF500 anyway? Drilling a hole in the rear fairing isn't an acceptable fitting solution IMO. Although maybe its more robust that way.

Not paying attention are we? Puma got rid of the 400 upstart, confiscated her clothes. Trying them on for size, prior to a complete respray (Hawaiian Blue Metallic?). The rear/top box rack doesnot require drilling any panels.

Member Contributer Mohawk Posted September 12, 2019 Member Contributer Share Posted September 12, 2019 That Apache gunner was just checking with control is that old red bike really the target. I’ve flown one of those Jet Provost jets with a display pilot. One of his stunts is to take off, retract the gear, then fly lower over the runway at about 2ft altitude ! I always liked the look of the 400, I had a 500 for many years, sold it to a mate. I think he still has it, if I ever get the spare time & cash I’ll try to get it back one day.
