Ok, 4C/40F and a grey blanket sky not the best weather, but as per my adage "any ride is a good ride", I went to see my mum on 2 wheels

Twas of a matter of time that the 2nd bulb of the speedometer would throw in the towel.

So I had to come into action on the matter

When you have a GPS telling you the right travelling speed..

When you have a phone installed on your BT headset (with flitsmeister) giving you audible information when you are going to fast..

?

?

Why on earth do you need a lightbulb fixed on your odo???

I don't get it..

So my 25+ year old gear mountaineering gear (the elastic "pull"cord crumbled) came in "handy"

Thouse would have come handy a few years back when I did ride my VF500 from yours to Stockholm, ~600km in 2-5C temps sure get to you bones even you just keep 130km/h

Removed 14,000km of commuting road grime of her bodywork

IMAG2342.thumb.jpg.c384f182d2db3344b6aa9e88de70e9b8.jpg

Left the metal parts "as is" as they are covered with ACF-50.

2018 discounted road tax arrangement means no riding this december.

So cleaned and lubed the SP2's chain to pull that duty.

(if not for the forecasted snows..).

Right, that is work done for 2018!

Completed my (1st) assignment as a self-employed GRC consultant. Clocked ~15,000km commuting on primarily the VF. And a few times SP2.

Next to the offices stand a landmark building in Eindhoven. So when I saw this print, I simply had to have it as a memento.

And have it framed for my "home office"wall

Thank you HONDA!

Tried parking my Honda Hawk GT650 in my studio apartment living room back in the 90's and was sorry I did so when I woke up the next few nights with a pounding headache....because of the gasoline fumes that came out of the gas tank vent (I bought the bike in WI, so no evap can) and filled the apartment. Cool having the bike where I could see it and fiddle with it so easy, but just not the healthiest/safest thing to do....

Love the phone. And the VW Beatle. I've owned a dozen of them in my youth. Rear wheel drive and no radiator was great here in the winters.

Yeah, the phone is a 1986 "special edition" of the phones we had back in those days. I could tinker with it so it will work with modern digital telephone exchanges....

But these days everybody calls me on my mobile....

And it being January, it was time to do a stock take on my other hobby...

Fresh oil and filter for the VF

Valve clearances check, 2 were a tad out this time. Previous  6k checks nothing so too not bad after 19,000km.

And probably for the 1st time ever, sync'd the carbs. Just because we could. But man, the FR is a BIATCH to get to the screw. Or so TheDutchy exclaimed a few times

IMAG2575.thumb.jpg.db48bfbc3465c06bc105ff6b464549f9.jpg

I'd forgotten to bring my wee tool to hold the adjuster (while tightening the nut). No biggie as Ray would have his.

Elsewhere yes....

So a new one was made

Say that again… I was praying backwards a few times, but finaly I got them. And if the tools are not at hand when needed, you have to improvise and make them yourself.. Just for those synch screws--> I want that factory tool.. No, not the one that they sell as a service tool, I want the one they had on the assembly line.. #2 is a pain in the butt.. You have to open the throttle just a wee bit to be able to turn the synch screw.

Good day of wrenching and surprised to see the VF500 being aged 30+ just needs little tweaks to keep her up to snuff.. How was she on the way home? Did she remark some positive notice on the ride home?

I also find FR cylinder 4 is a real PITA to get to.  I have the proper Honda adjusting tool too but even with that it is really difficult to get onto the nut. If they are out it does make the bike much nicer to ride when they are all synced up though
