Try this... I'm sure it ain't cheap though...

17. 5W30 Amsoil Series 3000 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil synthetic, API CI-4 PLUS, CF, SL, ACEA A3/B3, E2, E3, E5, E7 = 102,642 psi

This is BY FAR, the highest ranked Diesel oil I have ever tested.

No...

The American Petroleum Institute (API) sets minimum for performance

standards for lubricants... it is split (for passenger cars) into two

categories. S = Petrol and C = Diesel, most oils carry both petrol (S)

and diesel C

In that Amsoil video the guy states that Mobil 1 5w30 is the base oil

to all their Diesel synthetics so in their view it exceeds the minimum

standards for your Mercedes... its up to you whether you want to spend

$12.95 qt for Amsoil or $5.40 qt Mobil 1...

Amsoil has a 0W-40 motorcycle-specific oil that is the cat's ass~

Referring back to that Amsoil video the guy states that Mobil 1 0w30

is the base oil to all their auto synthetics and Mobil 1 5w30 is the

base to all their diesel synthetics... in their view M1 is the premium

POA... The motorcycle specific oil is either one or the other or a

combination...

There only a few places to get pao, that has nothing to do with the final product, and to even insuate they are the same is totally incorrect. Anyone with a nose should be able to tell they aren't the same oils.

the question should be how much pao is in Mobil1, in comparision. The way the flash point have dropped on many Mobil1 products, such as the VTWIN, id say not much.

Quote Mobil

"Mobil 1 uses high-performance fluids, including polyalphaolefins (PAOs)"

but no knows the exact % of PAO in Mobil1...

PAO (polyalphaolefin) are base fluids that are synthesized from

ethylene. Commonly referred to as synthetic hydrocarbons, have many

favorable properties which contribute to their rapidly growing use

for a variety of industrial applications . They have low pour points,

low volatility, good compatibility, thermal stability,

hydrological stability, chemical inertness and good natural lubricity.

FLASH POINT

You'll see motor oil flash point range from 380 to 485...

Technically speaking an oils flash point is the lowest temperature at

which it will generate sufficient vapor to flash or ignite when exposed

to a source of ignition, or fire. In other words, at what temperature

do the smoldering vapors catch fire? For most gasoline oil

samples, it's around 380F. For most diesel samples, it's around 410F.

When the flash point reads lower than expected, it may indicate fuel

contamination or solvents or even water.

Vtwin used to be around 518 degree flash, now its down around 440 degree like their car oils, vtwin used to be the real stuff, the base oil has cheapen. 10w40 used to be at 487 degree, mobil has made changes to its expensive oils while maintaining price, consumer none the wiser.

Mobil maintains price of their expensive oils from the shear volume of sales...

Oil Market share

Mobil 1 58%

Amsoil 4%

Quaker State 4%

Castrol 7%

Pennzoil 9%

Valvoline 10%

Havoline 2%

Others 6%

So M1 5w30 is sweet Diesel as well?

Just pulled a quart out of the case in my garage and there is no API "C" rating for diesel and it specifically stated "For Gasoline Engines" on the front label...

Where did you pick-up the 5w30 EP formula? I've been looking for that one and none of my local stores have it... Autozone, O'Reillys, WalMart, etc.
