Nice color! Looks close to factory (non-USA), but as mentioned not great lighting. I grabbed a set of lightly rashed Canadian Silver at one point, but it didn't survive my lack of riding ability...

Liking the center strip. Kinda F4i-ish? That what I'm thinking of? Triumph?

Nice dumbo delete. As with mine, I find it hard to notice because it just looks right, like it should have come from the factory!

Thanks Kev. Yes I am sorry about the pic quality and lighting. My friend snapped the photo for me since I have been out of town and working like crazy. Better pics to follow soon I promise.

That was exactly what I was thinking on the silver. I always liked that Euro/ Canadian color option and it's too bad that Honda never offered it here in the US. The yellow will always be a favorite and I may go back to it someday. The center strip was just to give it a more aggressive look to the front. Combined with the dumbo delete, GSXR mirrors and LED headlights the front end will be JUST different enough from the standard fairing.

I can't wait to see it fired up...to see that Sebspeed clutch cover working and hear those Staintunes roaring. This has been an agonizing wait.

Getting closer to the end...I am hoping that we are wrapped up with this project next week!

I am really pleased with how the seat turned out from Saddlemen. perfect fit and we put the seat release in a really easy to get to spot.

The GSXR mirrors turned out to be a major pain but we got them to work with ZX6R mounts and some trimming / swearing/ beer.

Just a few things Still left to do:

- install new grips

-install new footpegs

- finish hanging bodywork

- tidy up the subframe / battery cover area

- install decals

- trim front fairing near tank - the fairing contacts the larger 6th gen fuel tank

-install Throttlemeister

I am loving the Sebspeed cover with the red finish. The clear rear tail light and turn signals also look pretty sick with the silver bodywork.

the bodywork still needs to be buffed, so please don't judge that its not the best looking at this point.

Mmmm . . . lookin' good! I'm sure you'll get some double takes from the unsuspecting. 'Nice 5th gen - no, wait it's a 6h . . . uh, no - wait - what's going on with this?'

Can you use spacers between the fairing brackets and frame, to distance the fairing from the tank?

Good idea, we will try that before we start trimming bodywork. Thanks!

Here are some pics of the right side, now that the lower has been installed. We had to trim the fairing slightly to clear the Sebspeed cover. We also had to trim the upper fairings where they meet the tank.

The Thurn tail light looks really nice. I will have to get a hugger otherwise when I ride in the rain I am going to look like a jet ski...and my back will be wearing whatever crud gets kicked up. Don't ask me how I know this.

The Lifetime LEDs are stupid bright. Hopefully they work as good as they look. Along with the Rigid SRMs (an amber cover will be replacing the black), cagers will really have to try to not see me.

Took the bike for its maiden run. Even though we downloaded my map from my other 5th gen, it looks like it is a bit weak on roll ons / midrange. So I will have to get some dyno time to perfect the fueling. As least the map that's in it now will give us a good baseline to start from.

Wednesday we are buffing the paint and then installing the decals. After that I am really hoping to enjoy riding the bike for the next month or so...winter is approaching fast. Too fast. It has almost been 1 year since I started this project. I hope that its worth it in the end.

Down the road, when I get the chance I will be powdercoating the cylinder head covers red. I think with the subtle red in the Sebspeed cover, the seat, decals (not on yet obviously) and grips, some red poking out of the engine area would look really nice against the silver and black bodywork.

If that bike were a cocktail, everyone at the bar would be ordering one. Start with a 5th gen, add a generous helping of 6th, a shot of 3rd, some VTR & RC51, a bit of GXSR and some custom touches. Place in a cocktail shaker and mix, then paint to taste. It truly is the bike Honda should have built. Can't wait to see it with the graphics. Very well done!

Ha, I will save all of that for the track bike build that I am considering doing! I. Must. Stop. Though...

The 6th gen upper is beautiful, but I actually prefer the upper/ side fairings from the 5th gen overall.

I almost went the route of USD forks, but found for more than double the cost I wouldn't really notice the improvements over a DMR tuned Superhawk front fork.

I think that's the first time I've seen a close up of the silver paint. Wow! Up close that is stunning!

Same here, it surprised me. I really had no idea that the Honda silver ('02 I believe) had so MUCH metalflake in it.

Installed the graphics and 3d Honda OEM emblems tonight. The emblems were painted black.

I want to make some minor mods to the other graphics, so no pictures of the upper/ front... but here are a couple of "teaser" shots :goofy:

That's not a scratch in the second pic, not sure what the lighting picked up!

Rode the bike out to Mounds Performance in Anderson IN today and had Phil run it on his Dynojet dyno.

The blue line is the Hybrid 5.5 Y2k model, the red line is my '01. The Hybrid and '01 have the same mods, with the exception of Staintune undertail exhausts on the Hybrid and an Akrapovic slip -on installed on the '01. The Hybrid has a 16t front sprocket while the '01 has stock gearing.

Max Hp- 104.68

Max torque- 55.81

Not too bad. The rideability is amazing now, the biggest improvement seems to be in torque and the smoothness.

Sebspeed makes them for us. Quality piece. All I did was paint the cover after he returned it and powdercoated the pressure plate so it stood out. just ship him your old cover and he takes care of it from there. He made a post at the top of the page, you can PM him for pricing and timeframe.

Getting to the final stages of the project.

We covered up the holes in the cowling by drilling the OEM grab rail plates out. Looks much cleaner!

I noticed that the right side of the bike would get a bit toasty by the mid pipe. Over the winter I plan to ceramic coat the mid pipe (header already done) in silver. We drilled out the heat shield and used an air cleaner grill to give it a custom look. The "V" shape was a nice touch I thought.

The rear brake master cylinder reservoir looked a bit rough so a Honda Shadow metal cover cleaned it up. Some minor cutting involved but went on easy.

We used the battery cover from a 6th gen to clean up the left side. Looks pretty OEM.

The RC51 calipers are awesome.

Left to do over the winter: Down to the final few items!

Ceramic coat the mid pipe

Powdercoat the cylinder head covers red

Install heated grips and powdercoat the heli bars to match the triple clamp

Find a suitable hugger!
