Guest
'04 VFR with 7,400 mi (not a typo). Bike wouldn't start the other day - very slow turnover then clicking. Charged the one-year old Motobatt battery and took it to dealer for load test - passed. Checked voltage (13.2) and put battery back in bike and on battery tender and also cleaned all connections. Came back three days later - tender shows solid green and battery shows 13.2 V. Bike would not start again - very slow turnover then clicking. Thoughts anyone? Member Contributer Switchblade Posted January 2, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted January 2, 2015 You still could have a bad battery, it' not uncommon for a newer battery to suffer a bad cell. Are you confident the load test was done correctly? Check all your connections, look for corrosion and burnt wires and connectors.
Auspanglish
Try with another battery if you have any MC buddies nearby... that way you will know if it's the battery or not... sometimes batteries hold a charge but may not be capable of handling certain loads... not sure what load test the dealer applied... certainly sounds like a battery issue, the clicking is the relay stuttering as the battery is unable to turn the starter motor. Alternatively you could hook up the car battery to the bike's battery (but leave the car's motor off). If another battery and/or the jump start fails, then it may be the starter motor circuit is shorting out or the starter motor itself is jamming up... pretty common on 3rd gens, not so much on later models. Sudden cold weather will bring a weak battery down altogether.
spud786
If you jump from a non started car battery and if its fine, then its the battery. Battery can have no output even though it reads voltage.
