Member Contributer vfr350 Posted January 18, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted January 18, 2014 Top on my winter list of things to do on the bike was to give it a bit more bark. I decided to cut down the Yoshi slipon. Upon disassembling the slipon I can tell you after 20K there was no need to ever even think about repacking this unit, it was fine. My goal was to still use the factory badge (wasn't going to just put rivets in the holes to cover them) and to make sure the clamp wasn't over the badge. What I ended up with was about 5" cut, I consider stubby being cut in half so will call it not so stubby. I also decided to have the unit coated, sent it off to Jet Hot which turned out to be somewhat of a mess and added another month here shipping things back and forth and back and forth. Although its not yet installed due to the arctic moving into my garage, here's a tease. I hope to soon post before and after pics, dB level changes and a sound clip as well. Member Contributer HumalogAddict Posted January 18, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted January 18, 2014 tease indeed let's have those pics of the finished product, even if not yet on the bike!
Member Contributer rangemaster Posted January 18, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted January 18, 2014 That looks fantastic. I've always like matte finishes. I've been tempted to bead-blast my Staintune, but my brother says I had better like it because it would take DAYS to get the factory polish back. Member Contributer vfr350 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Member Contributer Share Posted January 19, 2014 No drips, No runs, No errors ..... Nice job ... Actually I can't take credit for that as it all ceramic coated, black is just another layer. But one of the reasons I sent it back was a run on the tip, but that was the minor reason. Member Contributer HumalogAddict Posted January 19, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted January 19, 2014 Never mind what I said... I hadn't clicked on the images to see past the 2 that show up from the start. That looks really sweet!! Great job!
Member Contributer vfr350 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Member Contributer Share Posted January 19, 2014 So it was a little warmer today, but damn that bike was slow warming up, never over 160. The sound is deeper, cackles a bit from behind. It is a bit louder but I did not do the dB testing, when I get more time. This is with like 5 minutes of run time, canister never even got hot to the touch so I'm sure it will burn in some. Clip:

Member Contributer vfr350 Posted February 19, 2014 Author Member Contributer Share Posted February 19, 2014 Ok, nice day today so I completed my testing and much to my surprise everything was within 1 dB of the original length. If I was to do it again I would have no issue taking that extra inch or inch and a half I left on the table. Still at the has only todays ride around the block so I expect a little change. I still think it sounds deeper, more so under load on the little ride. Couple new clips, always had that little raspy note until you get some more heat in it from a ride. It yanked the front tire with authority so it appears I haven't lost anything.
Member Contributer rangemaster Posted February 20, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted February 20, 2014 The proportion is perfect-I like how it ends even with the tire.
rc51jim
I did the same thing a few years ago on a Two Brothers slip-on from an RC51 I dropped. I had put it on my Honda CBR600F2, and just switched it over to the VFR. Inside was essentially the same as the Yosh. I shortened it about 7 inches. I just don't like oversized slip-ons, they look out of proportion.
