If you base it on the way the previous generations were categorized, it should be considered 8.

It appears to be an assemblage of spare shop parts. Shame on you Honda. We demand better than this !

It's an 8th gen. Look at the 90-93 vs 94-97 differences and they are different gens.. Same motor different gens.

Keep it simple stupid.

8th gen.

The 1200 is also a VFR, like it or not. There have been 750, 800 & 1200 cc versions. So what? Honda released them all as VFRs.

Actually 1000 yes in the first gen VF1000F and I consider the VF1000R with GDC a real VFR even if you want to go by semantics and not include the first gen VF models...

I do consider 83-85 to be gen 1... but they are VF's, not VFR's... IMO.

I don't consider the first gen VFs as VFRs (they were Interceptors) but I do make an exception for the 85-86 VF1000R with GDC a VF-R so semantics aside we have had 250, 400, 500, 700, 750, 800 (781), 1000 and 1200 VF, Interceptors, and VFRs from Honda just to clarify the point Auspanol was making.

But you don't need a history lesson, I have seen that 2187 mile original first gen in your garage (or is it 1871 miles...?) either way it is awesome.

plus the VT250 which had the Interceptor nomenclature as well...the bottom end was half a 400 and the top end was half a 500...

Oh, c'mon. The VTR250 wasn't even a V4!

The "generation" thing was always a US invention, as it completely ignored the ROW. As a result, it is impossible for it to "make sense", so if people want to call the new VTEC the "8th-gen", sure, why not. Honda will never use that terminology, but it is helpful to know which is which if you want to be understood by Yanks...

Ciao,
