Clear skys to the east near Canmore

This afternoon I headed west towards the mountains. I had a late start around 4pm, but any ride is better than remaining parked.

The wind was ferocious, and to the west dark clouds loomed. After I got out of the city the pothole situation got a lot better, but gravel remained about the same. It just meant no sudden moves on corners.

The mountains were obscured by low lying clouds, and it was clear that I was riding towards some rain. Regardless, I pressed on - it's been a very long parking season, and a little weather isn't going to dissuade me from a ride.

Stopped in Canmore for a coffee and a bite to eat for dinner, then swung up by the Nordic Center to take a few pictures as there was a break in the rain.

Trip was relatively quiet, although there is some wildlife that need to learn proper road crossing etiquette. Two deer and one horse. The horse was wandering down the 1A with two of his friends, and from my standpoint it seems that he decided that the grass was less-brown on the other side of the road. Both of the deer crossed far enough ahead to provide ample time to slow down without any emergency maneuvers, but it tends to put me on high alert. I know that where you see one there are five more around the next corner just waiting to ambush the complacent rider.

A few pictures from today.

Nice pics Olive. You are so lucky to live near such fabulous scenery. I have two never-done-must-do-on-a-mc trips on my bucket list. One is Banff, Yoho and Jasper. (The other is the Pacific Coast Hwy.) I'd love to have an escorted tour with you of the former.

MaxSwell - the Pacific Coast highway is incredible to ride! I have been fortunate enough to visit it twice - both north and south. We are fortunate up here to have some spectacular scenery. However, having said that I still find the rock formations in Utah and Arizona to be incredibly rewarding - those really speak to me.

Motormike - Canmore, Alberta. Just a quick afternoon jaunt. Canmore tends to be a good spot to stop for the first coffee of the morning.

Olive, I agree 100% about Utah. It's been my favorite place to visit since I first went to Snowbird. Multiple auto camping and hiking trips. Then when I started riding it became my #1 destination. Fabulous roads and other-worldly scenery. I've been camping/backpacking several times in your neck of the woods but yet to do it on an mc. Thus the item on the bucket list.
