Magneisum Wheels - Strip And Powdercoat?

I've been working on getting an RS250 (Honda, not Aprilia ) back on the track. One of the things I'd like to do is change the wheel color - currently a bright, glossy red - to a more sedate matte black.

for standard wheels the best bet would be to blast the old paint off and powder coat, but they are magnesium and I want to make sure not to damage them. So what do people recommend -

-vapor blast then powdercoat?

-chemical strip and then paint?

-something else?

any help would be much appreciated

Be careful with the chemical strippers. A buddy here took his magnesium rims to a local powder coater last year and they dumped them in the solvent tank. Wasn't much of the rim left when they took them out. The over the counter products probably aren't as concentrated though. It's worth checking the label though. :)
