nedhills Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) I was going down a busy road today, and as I was passing a bar a drunk driver pulls in front of the jeep in front of me who slams on there brakes followed by me slamming on my brakes causing my front fairing to smash into the rear bumper and spin around and throwing me over the handlebars. in the end the drunk driver drove off but the blame wasn't put on me thankfully. my front fairing broke in half and the frame around the headlight bent up into the handlebars, but other than that the damage on me and the bike were minimal. it just sucks because i just spent 9 months repainting the bike. Member Contributer CSFS Posted September 3, 2012 Member Contributer Posted September 3, 2012 That's more than a bit shit mate, nice that blame wasn't apportioned to you though... I guess if there's an upshot here, you have something to keep you occupied for the next 9 months...?!?!?!? Quote
Member Contributer kaldek Posted September 3, 2012 Member Contributer Posted September 3, 2012 Never paint a motorcycle, it will just get smashed up the next day! Just ask Miguel. Quote
Member Contributer Yokel Posted September 3, 2012 Member Contributer Posted September 3, 2012 Geez, Ned! So sorry to hear about the mis-hap. Glad you are okay though! Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 3, 2012 Member Contributer Posted September 3, 2012 You are lucky Lucky you are unhurt Lucky you live in a state that makes you not liable for the damage. Here the rule is simple, you have to keep enough distance to come to a safe stop. The car in front -had to- slam his brakes, tough. You should have kept enough distance...... Not saying I agree with this, because it doesnot always work in the real world. But that is how the rules are applied here.... Quote
Member Contributer vfr Posted September 3, 2012 Member Contributer Posted September 3, 2012 Sorry to hear about your mishap but glad you are ok. Those cagers are a highly unpredictable species! Quote
Metallican525 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 That's horrible, hopefully the drunk gets what he deserves from other sources. I've been the victim of "going too fast to stop" myself also. Good luck with getting your girl all back pretty again, luckily you're still pretty cause that's harder to repair!! Quote
Member Contributer HiDesertMLB Posted September 3, 2012 Member Contributer Posted September 3, 2012 Sorry to hear. The important part is that you didn't get hurt and you're around to ride another day. Hope you can find replacement vintage plastic w/o too much fuss... that sure is a nice '83 you have. Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 3, 2012 Member Contributer Posted September 3, 2012 tell me what you need in detail and what yopu'd would expect to pay I will then give this guy a call, he is selling this in parts. I can then find out what shippings costs Alternatively, contact him directly, click on the Email deze adverteerder, you will be asked to put in your details and enter the security code The guy seems is also selling a VF700 for some 800 bucks. the VF750's engine is shot, hence him selling in parts If he is not good in english (most dutch are though) I can help too http://motoren.markt...&fta_ind=2&fs=1 The maximum size of a box to the US is 100cm by 50cm by 50 cm Quote
Baileyrock Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Sorry about your crash and glad your OK! The bike looked great after all your work! Also sorry to say it's OUR fault if we rear end someone else no matter why. Quote
Member Contributer MaxSwell Posted September 4, 2012 Member Contributer Posted September 4, 2012 That will be hard to buff out. Glad you came out in one piece. Too bad the @#$%^&* drunk got away. Let's hope for Karma to catch him up. Quote
Veefer800Canuck Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Are you freaking kidding man!! After all that work??? Geez that sucks. Sorry to hear man. Hopefully you'll get it fixed up faster than 9 months now that you have practice!!! Quote
Guest Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Not nice but here in New Zealand you would have been at fault as well for not being able to stop in time for the vehicle in front you. We have these silly rules even though if the drunk hadn't pulled out it would never have happened. Quote
nedhills Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 thanks everyone for your encouragement, also thanks dutchy for the offer, but I got lucky yesterday. I went on craigslist in search for some parts and I found a parts bike for $1000 so I gave the guy a call and told him the parts I needed but he said he wanted to get rid of the whole bike so I offered him $150 and he accepted! the bike is the blue w blue stripe instead of red but during the winter I'll just get the front fairing decal kit and paint my blue and I'll be golden. anyway here are the post crash fix pics.
