Slowly I am getting caught up with the posts - today I am riding through Maine. Weather outside is grey with rain. I had been promised warmer weather on this side of the border, and am still seeking it out. Perhaps it's not yet time to mail my heated vest and warm gear home just yet. More updates to follow!

Anchors aweigh . . . ! The ferry reminds me of the Alaskan ferries and the one that crosses between the N & S Islands of New Zealand. When the deck hands come around with the tie down chains, it made me want to ask "so - just what kind of weather are you expecting on this crossing, anyway?" On the Alaska route, a few people had pitched their tents inside - no one seemed to mind. I guess it beat sitting in a chair. It seems very wintery for June - it should be getting warmer in no time.

On the return voyage they used tiedown chains on the big semi-trailers. Apparently a month or two ago they had an unexpected rough crossing had a few tip over on cars . That would make a huge mess! :comp13:

Wintery? No... this is average for June. At least in Canada. Still looking for these warmer temps that I have been promised. (I know most EVERYONE reading this is laughing at me and telling me to beware what I wish for...) :laughing6-hehe:

I returned to the front of the boat where there were rows of seating with television screens at the front. The chairs were large, reclining like seats in aircraft. Lots of room between the aisle – space wasn't at a premium here as it is on an airplane. The spacing reminded me more of the first class section of an airplane. I choose a spot where I was going to spend the night.

For many years now, one must book a cabin for an overnight Channel crossing. This at least add 200 euro's...... :pissed: making taking the bike over to Scotland silly expensive...

You weren't supposed to tell them about THAT part! :computer-noworky:

With a Police escort no less... Uhhh... Timmy? Does this mean I was run out of town? :laughing6-hehe:

Not even phone service yesterday. Rode through Shenandoah National park through Skyline Drive, and then down the Skyway. Beautiful roads built for bikes! Camped at Otter Creek last night, and just ducked out to get coffee and a cup of internet connection.

This morning was a fairly sedate ride - I headed along the parkway for some time until I caught up to another rider. Following them I noted that they were slowing down a lot for corners, braking IN corners, and seemed to be a fairly new rider. Not wanting to spook them I waited for a passing zone and then went on by. He decided to follow me into a corner, and I watched him almost arrange a single bike accident. I didn't mean to suck another rider in, but it seemed he was determined to try to keep up hammering it through the short straights and braking for corners. (I remember when I started to ride... it wasn't that long ago).

I decided to slow up and show them proper lines through corners, and point out road obstacles. See if I could impart the lesson of "the pace". Besides, it wasn't that far before I was heading off the parkway for gas and coffee, and I decided the responsible thing was to watch out for the other rider. Really wished I could have given him one message: "ride your own ride".

Heading back on the Parkway today. Planning a group ride with some friends north of the Atlanta area on Sunday. I will post up details here if any VFRD people want to join us! (Mark your calendars).

I will catch up on posts properly in a day or so. Really want to be back out on the Parkway today.
